The esports industry is developing in an uneven manner in the world. South America lags behind Europe and China but every year the region takes small steps forward. While there are development problems connected with the infrastructure and inability of many families to buy up-to-date computer gadgets. However, many countries have already made a claim about themselves on the esports stage (Brazil, Argentina, Peru).
In this article, we will consider organizations, individuals, and events related to esports in South America.
There are more than enough clubs and organizations on the South American stage, however, there are not so many collectives that have achieved any peaks. And it is not about competition but about financial possibilities. To assemble a roster of five players, you need to be ready for plenty of expenses that seem impossible for the majority. There are many talented gamers among youngsters that will stop at nothing for a chance but going to computer clubs or buying a new computer is irrational use of money for them.
As for esports teams with achievements, the list is not huge:
Many people tried to promote esports in the region. Some of them are representatives of classical kinds of sport. For example, in 2018 Javier Alejandro Mascherano told that he would develop the industry concluding a partnership agreement with eSports Planet. However, there is no more information about this.
Many professional players (Stinger, Bardo, Lelis) told in their interview that their results helped them to solicit support from sponsors and fans. Before that, everything was done with the help of personal finances and also the collective efforts of the team. All people, as well as CIS at the beginning of the 2000s, did not believe in the industry. But that has already disappeared here while it will not finish soon in South America.
Due to the current situation in the world, we do not hope that we will see LAN tournaments soon. However, the organizers of ESL One Rio 2020 have another opinion. They are sure that the infection will have been reduced by November and the recurrent epidemic will not make the states close the borders again. Valve has changed the system of invitations to the tournament, so the old invites are invalid now. The teams have to fight with each other in regional qualifiers to get a quota to the event. The holding place is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
