The production cost report by Procurement Resource assesses the production of soda ash via the Solvay process and via the Leblanc process. In the Solvay process, sodium chloride reacts with ammonia in the presence of water and carbon dioxide to produce ammonium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. The resulting sodium bicarbonate is then heated until it gives out water and carbon dioxide, leaving soda ash behind.
