Some of us like watching twisted movies because it’s a delight for the brain. In some cases, the twist is complementary to the story whereas, in others, the producers and directors just want to confuse us.
I was using my Spectrum Internet service to Google some mind-blowing or, as you may call them, “Twisted” movies and I happen to come across some scrumptious titles. Some of them I was able to watch while others are yet to be explored. Here is what you need to start with:
This movie is from the times when John Cusack was still a heartthrob. Identity takes place in a creepy motel and in the mind of a deranged person who has multiple personality disorder. Each persona within him is fighting for dominance. The story of the movie draws structure from the novel “And Then There Were None.”
10 strangers arrive in the motel and are cut from the rest of the world. They are mysteriously killed off. The film uses reverse chronology structure for several events to take place hours before the arrival of the characters.
This science fiction movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The entire movie actually takes your brain out of its natural habitat. DiCaprio is a professional thief who knows the art of infiltrating the subconscious mind of his targets and steal information. He is offered a chance to erase his criminal history in exchange for implanting an idea into the subconscious of his target. And just when you seek more clarity, the film cuts to black.
Whether or not he was successful, you must watch the movie to find that out. Inception has an elite cast like Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, and more.
If you would like to see talking monkeys in action, Planet of the Apes is one of the most iconic movies to watch. And if you have originally seen Planet of the Apes from the 60s starring Charlton Heston, you would be excited to watch the sequel even more.
It’s a bit disappointing to learn in the final frames of the movie that the “planet” of the apes was the Earth, which was overrun by those obnoxiously intelligent monkeys.
This movie is all about the art of deception. It’s a story of two friends and fellow magicians who become enemies after a tragedy. The two devote themselves to this rivalry and the sacrifices they make along the way bring them fame but with a price.
The audience is baffled by their main and final trick. In the end, it’s revealed that Borden is really two people who are able to successfully sustain a greater illusion. Angier is working on generating clones with the help of Nikola Tesla, which kills them at the end of each performance. Sounds interesting and confusing, right!
Prisoners is a story of a family whose children get kidnapped. Starring Hugh Jackman played by Keller Dover, who is desperate to find his abducted daughter Anna and her friend Joy. Their only lead is a dilapidated RV that was parked on the street. The police pursue multiple leads. Dover takes things into his own hand because of a lack of diligence from Detective Loki played by Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s interesting to see how far a desperate father would go to protect his family.
The critics loved this movie but the audience, not so much. Hereditary is a brilliant attempt to creating a disturbing and horror environment. After the death of the grandmother of the Graham family, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel an intricate secret web about their lineage. They try to outrun the sinister fate received in their inheritance.
The movie keeps on hinting that the grandma is a witch. As the movie reaches its plot, it’s revealed that the Graham family are pawns in a grand plan to summon one of the kings of Hell. Fasten your seatbelts because things are about to get spooky.
Have you ever watched a movie that makes you question everything you have watched after the credits? If you haven’t then the Arrival is one of them. It is a science fiction thriller starring Amy Adams playing the role of Louise Banks. She is a linguistics expert who along with her team has to interpret the language of the aliens. These aliens have come to the earth in a mysterious spaceship.
Humans trying to communicate with extraterrestrial creatures is something you don’t get to see all the time. If it helps, the movie received 8 Academy nominations so the content is going to be exciting.
Gone Girl is one of those movies that might actually want you to pull your hair because what can you expect when a marriage goes wrong. It’s based on the novel of the same name.
Amy Dunne played by Rosamund Pike goes missing leaving her husband Nick played by Ben Affleck worried by each passing day. No one knows where Amy is gone. Is she killed, kidnapped, or did she run away?
You are going to need something stronger than just popcorn to watch these movies because they will mess up your head. You can always ask a friend to accompany you on the journey, like Spectrum customer service does when you need help the most. You will have a great time, or at the very least, will have a lot of thinking to do afterward.
