We’re raising money to build a 14 foot long animatronic dino shark suit to be used in the filming of the upcoming short film “The Ballad of Sharkasaurus”
Sharkasaurus began as the VERY FIRST Telus Storyhive project. It was wildly successful and travel the world film festivals winning acclaim, admiration and awards.
We then adapted our monster into a graphic novel published by Renegade Arts Entertainment. We again travelled the world, this time at comic conventions.
Now, Sharkasaurus has evolved again. This time we’re setting our story in the old west entitled “The Ballad of Sharkasaurus”
1885. When miners dig too deep in the badlands for Drumheller they unwittingly unleash Sharkasaurus on their town. Now, only Betsy Tyrell stands between Sharkasaurus and the obligation of their beloved town.
The best part about this project is we received money from the AFA to make the short film, but in order to make this project AMAZING we need to raise money to build a 14 foot long animatronic dino shark suit.
We’re really proud that Brian Cooley has come on board to help us make this project. Brian has over 30 years experience building and sculpting dinosaurs for the Royal Tyrell Museum, National Geographic, and more.
“Spencer, we’re retired so we’re either very expensive or we love the project. You fall into the later category” – Brian Cooley
He’s generously donating his time and expertise to design and sculpt the monster and are currently working on a prototype of the monster.
We’re looking to raise $12,000 through kickstarter. About 25-35% of that will go to deliverables, perks, and kickstarter fees. The rest of the money will go to:
Growing up on a farm outside of Red Deer, Spencer Estabrooks films have been shaped by the rural landscapes and mythology of Alberta. He’s written, directed and edited dozens of short westerns, horrors, comedies, and documentaries.
In 2014, he created short film and monster called “Sharkasaurus”; a half T-Rex, half Megaldon, all Alberta cryptozoological monster. After a successful film festival run he adapted it into a graphic novel, published by Renegade Arts Entertainment. It is currently being developed into 2 more books, a feature film, and a toy series from Last Resort Toys.
In 2019 he launched the third season of his Award winning fantasy comedy series “One Hit Die”. Described as “Lord of the Rings Shot like the Office”, the series has been delighting international audiences on Amazon Prime and The Fantasy Network.
Estabrooks continues to find ways to tell his genre projects stories through graphic novels, animation, documentary, web series and feature films. From Alberta beer history to mythical stories of blind gunmen in the old west, his eccentric genre stories are routed in the Alberta and the beauty he finds in it.

Originally from the northern Albertan Prairies of Canada, Robert combines his roots in the soulful simplicity of classic country with lyrics that offer more than surface meaning. Robert is sure to make his audience nostalgic for a place they may never have known, and warm hearts with his small town charm. In 2015 Robert moved to Ontario to record his debut EP “Prairie Gold”, which was released in August 2017. “Rocky Mountain Lot” featured on his EP, made it to the top 10 in the country category in the Canadian Songwriting Competition in 2017. Robert has now brought his acquired knowledge and experience from the Toronto music scene to the thriving scene of Calgary Alberta. Where he has earned a reputation as a electric entertainer and carefully crafted artist alike. You can expect a sly wink, whitty chat, fierce vocals, toe tapping rythmns and of course some rhinestones when Robert hops on the stage, not to mention a seamless integration of progressive themes alongside a clear respect to the old school country tradition.
Cary Nord is an Eisner Award winning artist best known for his work on Conan (Darkhorse) and Daredevil (Marvel). His most recent work was on WonderWoman at DC Comics. He is currently working on his first creator owned property at Image comics due out later this year.
He is rumoured to be living somewhere in the wilds of the Great Canadian North with his cat and a wild Canada Goose.
We have money and experience necessary to shoot the short film. The hardest part for us is designing and building the monster. Luckily we have time to test and prototype the puppet and a master sculptor.
