A woman from Memphis is now learning how to walk again after she was involved in an accident with a drunk driver in Arkansas on November 9, 2019. It was around 4:00 a.m. when Caroletta Hudson crossed over the I-40 bridge into Arkansas, reports Fox 13. Moments after crossing into the state, Hudson found herself colliding with multiple vehicles.
Apparently, a drunk driver, who has been identified as Gregory Lawson, had parked his vehicle next to some concrete barriers on the highway with his lights turned off. Two drivers collided into Lawson’s vehicle followed by Hudson. A tractor-trailer managed to swerve out of the way into another lane to avoid the accident but hit another car in the process.
Hudson told the news source that while it was hard to see what was happening at the time because it was dark outside, she could feel her vehicle spinning after it crashed into the other vehicles. As a result of the impact, both of Hudson’s ankles were crushed and had to be reconstructed, says the source. She also broke three ribs and suffered injuries to her liver and one knee.
Hudson says she has been confined to a wheelchair since the drunk driving accident occurred.
Although Hudson says that he has been attending therapy regularly, she told the source it will take approximately 10 months to a year before she will be able to walk again. Aside from losing some of her physical abilities, Hudson has also accrued more than $400,000 in medical bills due to the injuries she suffered in the wreck. Although Lawson did plead guilty to DWI in December, he has yet to satisfy the fine his crime carried with it. In fact, the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office has even announced that there is a warrant out for Lawson’s arrest.
Aside from fighting to regain her ability to walk, Hudson is also pushing for Lawson to be charged for the accidents he caused.
