Hello. I’m Emma Warley, a multi award winning wedding photographer.
I got into street photography very recently. I normally photograph weddings. I thought street was only for the cool kids who shoot in black and white while listening to rare jazz recordings from the 1950s.
I live in Scarborough, by the sea in England and like every small town we have our own little traditions. One peculiar tradition to us is that on Shrove Tuesday all the town head down to the foreshore and skip with ropes by the sea. I decided back in 2017 that I needed to keep my camera skills fresh outside of wedding season and went out for some midwinter photography.
When I got home and uploaded the photos a few folk commented and compared them to various street photographers I’d never heard of. Obviously, I then had to start researching them and this has led me to buy quite a few photo books.
I started going out more and more and I’ve now got to the stage where I have quite a few shots (maybe thousands) tucked away on hard drives, most of which have never seen the light of day. They’re in collections of sorts and I’ve decided to make a small photo zine of my first proper collection. You can check out my website with examples of my photography here.
Photographs taken at the seaside. A variety of seaside towns around the UK.
This is what I know. This is where I’ve grown up and this is where I live now. It seems only right to start at the beginning.
I’ve always felt a great connection between how I shoot and having grown up at the seaside. The colours and noises and general chaos of the Great British seaside has infected my brain and how I see the world. Which in turn influences my photography.
20 Pages / A5 / Softcover
I’ve costed it up and I need about £100 to get going and do a print run of 20 page A5 size zines on decent paper. More pennies means more pages which would be super ace! I can’t wait to share some of my absolute favourite photographs with everyone.
If I hit my target the books get made. Simple as that. Plenty of time to get everything designed, printed and posted before the busy summer season.
