Welcome to the SAKANA Volume 3 Kickstarter! The aim of this Kickstarter is to collect chapters 17-24 of the ongoing webcomic SAKANA into a softcover book to match Volumes 1 and 2.
WHAT’S SAKANA?? SAKANA is a slice of life romantic comedy (a sli-li-rom-com, if you will) set in Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market. Our heroes must navigate a hazardous dating scene, unpack some serious baggage, and wrangle unruly seafood in order to find love, peace of mind, and a paycheck.
In Volume 3, the much-anticipated Second Date is just around the corner, and our hero, Jiro Sakana, definitely isn’t ready for it. To keep his budding relationship above water, he’ll need all the help he can get from friends, family…even enemies. Will he ever be able to relax and enjoy himself? And is there more to Chie than meets the eye? Meanwhile, Yuudai and Taisei try to navigate their tentative interest in one another, but complicated feelings and miscommunication threaten to keep them apart.
Is anyone safe from the dreaded “Sakana Date Vortex“??
WHO’S THE AUTHOR?? Mad Rupert (short for Madeline, she’s not angry) began self-publishing SAKANA in January 2010! Since then she’s also worked on many other comics, including multiple personal projects, adaptations of popular cartoons like Adventure Time and Regular Show, and an upcoming graphic novel through First Second! Aside from comics, she likes bugs, farms, wizards, her dog Gizmo, and her husband Gannon. She lives and works near Boston, Massachusetts. You can find more of her work on twitter @madelinerupert !
IS THIS A WEBCOMIC?? SAKANA is a free to read, strip-format webcomic, updating twice weekly every Monday and Thursday (usually around 7pm, east coast USA time.) Unlike newspaper comic strips, Sakana is story-driven and each strip should be read in order. It’s aimed at the teen and older crowd, and contains some swearing, sexual innuendo, and fish guts (they DO work in a fish market). The comic is celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2020, and is currently over 600 pages long (and still going!)
You can read it here! >>> http://www.sakana-comic.com/
The Volume 3 book will be over 130 pages long: two strips per page for 105 pages, and bonus material beyond that. Books will only be available in softcover at this time. Here is a mockup and some specs:
The comic has always been traditionally inked with a brush pen. Therefore, the interior of Volume 3 will remain black and white, with a nice colored cover.
Here is what the strips look like:
Here’s a handy list of all the available rewards in this campaign. Bookplates (both signed and sketched) and physical copies of Volumes 1 and 2 are only available in limited quantities.
And here is a breakdown of all the tiers:
For this campaign, we’ll be focusing primarily on stretch goals that add value to the book itself! More will be revealed after we’ve met our funding goal!
Thank you so much for checking out my comic and my Kickstarter! :)
