My name is Dave, I have been wood working for more than 35 years and would love to make this a business for myself. I am a type 2 diabetic and due to this I have had terrible trouble with neuropathy and diabetic ulcers. A little over 2 years ago I happened to get a blister on one of my feet and it never healed, eventually causing me to catch a nasty infection and lose one of my toes. Then, after a year of surgeries and wound care it had finally healed and I purchased a new pair of work boots which ended up turning my life on it’s head. I managed to get two new blisters due to the boots rubbing all day and the neuropathy preventing me from feeling my feet. Since then I have been a guinea pig for external fixators, had 3 pic lines and 11 surgeries totaling well over 500,000 USD. I have broken my leg and lost my job as well as another one of my toes. I have been a Property Manager, Chief Engineer and Cabinet maker for over 20 years. Currently, I am unable to work a normal job until it is healed, however, there is a chance that it will never fully heal or be strong enough to support me without crutches. I have always loved woodworking since my father introduced me to it when I was younger, but due to medical expenses and several unanticipated moves I have either lost or sold off most of my tools. This campaign is to make me independent again, so I can help support my wife and children. Your pledges will help me regain the tools I need and help me afford a shed so I have a real place to work and keep my tools instead of keeping them haphazardly in the kitchen and a makeshift ‘office’ in a small spare room in my home. With woodworking I can sit and work without worry of a flare up or accidentally falling, and I can do something I love as well.
Once fully backed, I would love to create a business selling things such as:
Once the goal is hit I will reach out to any and all backers who meet the requirements for perks and discuss details for their custom pieces and then once details have been discussed I will be able to give you an idea of how long it should take me to finish your piece and how far along in the queue of backers you are so you know when to expect your custom item.
Estimated project time from the point of contacting and confirming details and queue number:
The times below are adjusted to fit doctors appointments and other health related tasks or issues that may interfere with work.
If something interferes with the estimated timing (ex. Hospitalization) I shall let the backer know by email and let them know when to expect their project to be completed.
There is always the chance that my doctor may want to keep me for a few days if my leg or feet act up, so processing time may be extended in the event of that.
