In 1990, Georgia Tech had an incredible football season that concluded with the victory in the Citrus Bowl and #1 ranking. The season took most pundits by surprise. At the beginning of the season, Tech had been unranked and picked in the middle of the pack of the ACC. This is a retrospective about the incredible story of a football program that many considered beyond saving had one of the most remarkable Cinderella stories in modern college football history.
My name is Andrew Brown, I am a documentary filmmaker and college football fanatic. If you go back and look at the different college football champions throughout the years, there truly are some remarkable stories. A sports story is going to have all of the elements that we are drawn to- conflict, overcoming odds, redemption and celebration. Georgia Tech’s 1990 season was one that I felt needed to be told. Then, when we started interviewing the people involved, I realized that the events of the story were even more incredible than I had realized! For example: Georgia Tech was considering disbanding the football program a few years earlier; the athletics department had been severely in debt and had failed to make necessary improvements; and the season prior to 1990 had started so poorly that the coaches had considered leaving- just to name a few.
I would be honored if you would consider helping us as we attempt to finish this story. We have conducted all of the research and interviews, but we need your help to get it put all together and released. In order to make a movie- “a movie” there is footage that has to be secured, music that has to be scored, graphics that have to be created, and final narration that has to be recorded. We are close, and this will get the film finished and out there for the world to see. This way, the 1990 National Championship will be able to be experienced by a new generation of College Football fans!
The risk is simple, we have spent a great deal of time and energy working on the project but if we are unable to receive finishing funds, it will be difficult to release the film.
