Jacky Oliver has been selected by the Crafts Council to be one of the 12 artists to show case bold, thought provoking installations at Collect Open, Somerset House, London. The show is on from Thursday 27th February to Sunday 1st March from 11.00 -18.00
The initial starting point of Jacky’s project “Field to Fork’ stems from her family trade of green grocers and growing up with an appreciation of the importance of seasonal produce. The artwork looks at the provenance of the fruit and vegetables we eat, current environmental challenges, key information about the carbon footprint of the production, transportation and consumption of this fresh produce. Field to fork uses a linear steel structure suggesting field and allotment plots and panels with collages of statistics, maps, and graphs, etched, enamelled and pierced on and through their surfaces to create shadows conveying the ephemeral delicacy of the subject.
Collect is an international Art Fair for Modern Craft and Design, with Galleries from around the world and 12 ambitious craft-led installations. Jacky will be creating one of these installations. There will be approximately 13000 visitors, with an international audience including established and emergent collectors, art dealers, interior designers, architects, and corporate buyers.
Collect Open is a platform for artists to represent themselves through an original body of work made specifically for the fair. It shines a light on individual makers and collaborations, providing them with a platform to break free from the usual constraints of their practice and creatively experiment.
During the development of this project Jacky has taken her ideas through a range of materials, printmaking on paper, etching metal, enamelling and using cast glass, and metal.
Other pledges include the chance to buy work ( Leather working tools, Looking forward II and D Day 75 ) which will be offered at special prices just for the kick starter … please contact me for details
This is an ambitious project exhibiting an installation in the beautiful setting of Somerset House. Taking ideas through a range of materials will allow me to push ideas in new ways. Presenting my work to the audience at Collect will allow me to discuss ideas with visitors and consider ways to develop the work further. This is a huge body of work to undertake, but a wonderful opportunity.
