Seven Pots of Tea includes dozens of recipes for teas, and explores the flavors and health benefits hidden in tea, through Ayurveda’s six ‘rasas’’ or essential tastes. Learn to make more than three dozen easy brews, teas and tisanes. Learn to make simple nosh and eats to pair with your cups of tea.
“Seven Pots of Tea” is just as much for beginners who want to make subtle changes to just one part of their daily routine, as it is for those who are looking for a guide, or collection of Ayurvedic teas, brews, tisanes, and healthy snacks to supplement what they already have on hand. Seven Pots of Tea, is meant to dovetail directly into your existing routines and rituals of self-care. It is not a tea-tox book.
All the recipes in this book explore six essential Ayurvedic tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, pungent/spicy, astringent and salty.
Ayurveda, a practice developed centuries ago, is essentially about listening to what ones’ body needs, and helping it – through food and self-care. Ayurveda and Ayurvedic eating suggests seasonal eating, in moderation. It involves being ‘in the moment’, self-care and mindfulness. It offers the tools to better many aspects of our life that we are striving to improve anyway. Ayurvedic eating, is self-conscious eating in a good way – so easy that anyone can do it. It does not replace medical advice, is not a medical cure – but it is essential a self-care ritual.
I have long been a tea-person. The first thing I learned to make for myself, before learning to cook an edible meal – was to make my own cup of tea, at 13. I grew up with Ayurvedic eating as part of our diet – albeit in subtle ways. A tisane for a cold, a pesky cough or a stomach ache, a hot tea remedy to soothe a fever, a seasonal snack that benefited the body – these did not just happen at my grandparents’ home… I practice them even today. For my first Masters, I studied Botany and majored in Taxonomy, Economic Botany, and Pharmacognosy, which becomes of particular interest to this book – because this is where the magic happens. {Geek alert: Pharmacognosy is a study of the healing potential of plant materials – including but not limited to herbs and spices… if you want to read a bit more about it, Wikipedia offers a snapshot.}
I often reference Ayurvedic concepts in my books or writings, and readers familiar with my work are now accustomed to hearing the words ‘warming’ or ‘cooling’ when they hear me describe an ingredient or a dish, or the suitability of it to a season. (If you have Crack the Code, one of my most successful Kickstarter projects, flip to the back pages – you’ll see).
I’m also studying Ayurveda, and its influence on impacting a better lifestyle. I was taught to listen to my body from a young age – and as I’ve become older, the wisdom that I had absorbed through my life becomes apparent. It is this wealth of knowledge that comes together as a cookbook, “Seven Pots of Tea.”
“Seven Pots of Tea” is divided into many detailed chapters:
In addition to the ebook choices (GooglePlay and iBook only), and print copies of Seven Pots of Tea, the goal and rewards are selected to make the overall campaign raise enough – so that a book becomes feasible for production. Depending on the tier, rewards now can include: a hand-painted, heat-safe glass teapot, a starter cookbook set with my bestselling titles, Crack the Code and Roti, a combination gift set or even a bulk pack discount suitable for purchasing among friends.
Rewards are limited in number and not available to backers in all countries – so please review these details when making a selection.
My first campaign on Kickstarter was in 2013-4, with ‘A Dozen Ways to Celebrate’. Then came ‘Crack the Code’, ‘Not For You’, and more recently, ‘Roti’. All these books went on to break records, make waves, get talked about and written about – from Forbes, NBC, CNN, BBC-Futures, to even my local NPR station! We’ve changed the way people think about how Indian food is viewed, consumed and shared.
So, I am excited and enthused at the possibility of ‘Seven Pots of Tea’.
I’ve found readers and friends through Kickstarter, a community of enthusiasts scattered across more than 30 countries around the world who are curious about the world we live in, and supportive of creative people like me. I am hopeful that we can make ‘Seven Pots of Tea’ together, and make an exceptional resource, to add to our growing exploration of the vast, tasty and healthy world of Indian cuisine.
Thank you!
Best,
Nandita

After four successful projects, having distributed thousands of books both print and digitally and the many tiers of rewards – I know what can go wrong, what works and what does not, and how to ensure that backers receive their rewards. So, I hope to keep this campaign simple. Here are some things you should know. ~~ Communication: Communication is always key and I make it my priority to communicate delays or problems with backers. It means that backers are notified on a regular basis, and hence clear email communication is critical to our success. Please do not provide a work email or a work address for your pledge, or a physical address that may not be valid when rewards are being distributed. If you are not in favor of regular emails, please adjust your notification settings within Kickstarter – I cannot do that for you. However, you also run the risk of missing emails. ~~ Tracking: International packages are the trickiest to track. Please understand that I cannot track the package after it leaves the US. The postal services have only lost two books in the 2000+ that have been shipped out in the last 5 years. However, if the book goes missing, I am unable to offer a refund or send a replacement. ~~ Geographic Restrictions: Books (ebook and print) to China are strictly not available. Please do not try to circumvent the process. ~~ Ebooks: are limited to their platforms and devices. GooglePlay books can be read on an iPhone (you need to download the GooglePlay app.) ~~ pdf’s are never going to be available, and neither are Kindle versions of book. I also will not offer any ebooks in any other platform other than the one you have already selected. ~~ Logistics: This campaign and rewards distribution is being managed by one person. I also write, photograph and design the book myself, and hence am limited when it comes to real-time responding, particularly for issues such as missing mail, or ebook deliveries. ~~ Accountability: I believe in clear accountability. And hence, keep all lines of communications open. Spam and abuse of creator-backer confidentiality will be reported.
