Soviet Cyberpunk – is an alternative look on the events, that happened in Soviet Union after explosion on Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In no way we support such turn of events, but it would be interesting to think what would happen if USSR did not collapse in 1991.
April 26, 1986 – date of the explosion in Chernobyl.
Prerequisites of the explosion on 4th block in Chernobyl power plant were development and implementation of new technological projects on big scale. It was the idealization of the project on national-wide scale that led to the catastrophe.
Government attempts to conceal the real consequences of accident led to the disappointment of communist-totalitarian regime inside the country and formation national-democratic movement amount the people.
Possible consequences of national conflict encouraged the most devoted supporters of utopian ideas to start large-scale research with the goal to create communist-technological superpower. Devastated by radiation zone around Chernobyl and underground tunnels under power plant were ideal place for soviet scientists to do their research.
April 18, 1991 – the day of technological revolution and the day when on the map of the world, new super-power had risen called “UNION”. Power was concentrated in the hands of four corporations. In order to make governing effective, they divided branches of government and resources among themselves. By idealizing communist ideas of those scientists, they have total control over the population.
Their main weapon is the artificial intelligence called FAITH.
Events of the movie start May 20, 2044. 58 years after Chernobyl explosion.
The first movie in this franchise had cost us $2500. In order to fit into such small budget. Most of the team worked willingly and for free. We used our own equipment: camera Sony A7S II, Rokinon Lenses and even regular construction light. Most of the visual effects that were in the movie we learned to do during the production process.
Nevertheless, we also had a lot of abandoned or active soviet buildings that also helped us saved a lot of money.
Currently, we made scripts for 5 different stories in our franchise so far. Being inspired by Cyberpunk 2077 and Love, Death and Robots, we came up with our own story, own anti-utopian world, in which we want to continue to create movies. Depending on the sum we will be able to get, we will be able to decide whether we create additional stories in this world or make the whole movie.
$100,000 – is a modest sum for production of such movie even in Ukraine. But thanks to our team and our skills, we will be able to fit into this budget. Entire team of Rebel Monkey Production lacks the education in movie production. We learned on our own by internet and practice. Thanks to that, we save a lot of money since we don’t need to hire somebody.
We started as just guys with cameras, shooting weddings and all sorts of commercials in order to make money, that’s what was seen from one side, but behind it, everyone stood by a goal, we always had a big dream – to make our own movies. Inspired by directors like Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez , Christopher Nolan and others. We are a small team with a common goal and a dream, and by small but confident steps we’re reaching it. Looking back at our path, I always think about what we have already learned and taught each other in the process, all thanks to our cooperation and teamwork, where everyone supports and helps each other.
Soviet Cyberpunk – is a project, which we created and developed on our own. Project, which we like very much. As of today, we have the working team of director, operator, makeup artists, costume designers. It wasn’t easy, but we were able to create such big project. We are proud of our results and our first short movie. To create further, we dearly need your support. We plan to release the movie by the end of year 2020.
