This Modern World Wall Map is a new and creative way to map the world. Over the past thirty years as at map retailer, Map Town we’ve seen all sorts of World maps and realized that most are either very tough to read because they have too much detail (especially in areas like Europe, Asia and the Caribbean) while others lack sufficient detail to make the map useful except as wall art. Our goal from the beginning was to find a balance between the two. We have designed a map that finds that balance.
The latest mapping technology was applied to show the World in a unique way never produced before. This includes the use of transparent labels; points, lines and polygons that glow to help draw the eye to important features, distinct fonts to easily reference national capitals and large cities, oceans, lakes, countries, continents, geological and geographical features. We have added many of the largest cities and metropolitan areas in the world that you simply will not see on other maps. Everything on this map is projected properly in the real world using GIS mapping software. We also wanted to focus on aesthetics using time tested cartographic methodologies to blend layers, have limited automation and move labels to their best possible location.
Four corner insets were designed to show the World in ways not before seen on a World map. The first shows the World’s current population including countries with over 100 million people plus cities and metropolitan areas over 5 million people. The second inset called “The World at Night” depicts a firefly representation of the cities. The third inset shows the World’s Tallest Mountains, showcasing all peaks over 3,352 meters tall (what climbers in our neck of the woods call the eleven-thousanders, or those exceeding 11,000 feet in elevation, including Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii, which rises from the depths of the Pacific Ocean and is actually taller than Mount Everest! This inset will satisfy the avid climber. The fourth and final inset shows the Fascinating Wonders of the World, including the 7 Wonders of the World, Natural Wonders and some of the most popular mountain peaks. It’s sure to educate you on sites that you likely haven’t heard of before. Consider this to be a quick Bucket list checklist sort of speak.

I have wanted to take on this project for a long time, but it’s no small feat and you must be in the right mindset. Having compiled and produced maps for over 25 years the risks to this project are very low. We have factored in the design, production and shipping hurdles to ensure that you get your product in a very reasonable time frame. The biggest risk is not achieving the financial goal which will limit the ability to scale this project. We will continue to fine tune the map as we prepare for production. Minor edits will be made to the map as we fine tune the layout.
