I recently lost a friend of mine to an automobile accident in September. 2 weeks later, I lost another friend to gun violence. I’m dedicating this film to both of them. At first, I wanted to tell a story of overcoming grief; but I quickly realized how do I ask my character to overcome grief when I myself have yet overcome it? Instead, I’m doing a film of an example of grief.
Reese, a girl in her 20s, has lost her best friend, Julia. Instead of attempting to move on, she’s stuck in her own isolation. How can Reese allow herself to feel anything when Julia can never feel anything again? How can she try to move on when Julia is forever 23? How can she live when Julia is 6ft under?
I am a Director/Director of Photography/Writer finishing my Master’s degree at Georgia State University.
I have been on many sets that could not afford, or didn’t care to, feed the cast and crew simply because of the fact that it’s student production and the assumption that said students are required to volunteer their time and energy at no cost to the production. On my set and with this film, I don’t want to do that. Even though this is a student production, I want to afford my cast and crew the RIGHT to a hot meal every 6 hours as they would on a professional set. It’s the least that we can do. in addition to this, your donations will help with securing locations, shooting permits, and festival entry costs.
As stated before, because this a student film, funds are extremely limited. Because of that, usual necessities for cast and crew are often neglected at the hands of the production. We are all film students and we are dedicated to making the best decisions for the overall production; however, for some, this will be their first time on set.
