Greetings, Adventurers! I’m Mike Bachmann and its time to come clean. To put the rumors to bed. TO FULFILL THE PROPHECY!
It’s time… TO MAKE MUSIC!
I, Mike Bachmann, have convinced/tricked the venerable genre defying band glass beach to help me make an album of original music based on the “Greetings, Adventurers!” podcast! That’s a minimum of four songs written by glass beach and myself about the misadventures and characters you’ve grown to love over the years! What’s more: that music will be performed live at a show in Columbus during GeeklyCon 2020!
I’ve made parodies for the show in the past, but despite urging from listeners, I can’t release them or sell a compilation album because I don’t own the rights to the music I’ve used. This is going to be different in a couple of fundamental ways:
In the past, my songs have all revolved around my own characters. While you’ll see some of that, we want to spread the love here. That means we’ll be looking at all sorts of angles that I’ve never explored in the past.
So let’s get to the details…
Your contributions are helping us do two key things: produce the album and allow glass beach to go on a tour that ends in Columbus during GeeklyCon 2020. Let’s break those down, as well as the stretch goals.
The Album
glass beach released “the first glass beach album” in May and the quality of that album is what brought me to approach them about this in the first place. They’ll be doing the same for this album but the fact is that we all have day jobs and we are going to be turning out what could be up to 8 songs in a relatively short time frame. That is going to mean time away from work for writing/tracking/editing/mixing/mastering. It’s also going to mean studio time (I’ll be flying to L.A. to record in studio with the band) and allow us to pay any additional musicians we need to bring in for various instruments.
As for the music, we’re working on the first track now (you can hear a demo at the end of our Kickstarter video) and are well into the planning stages for the rest! We can’t tell you everything now but imagine a soft rock ballad about a new father teaching D&D to his daughter for the first time or if Skud Derringer had his own anime theme song with Japanese lyrics written by a native speaker! We are not short on ideas and if you’re not careful, we’ll make good on em!
The Tour
glass beach is based in L.A. but we want the opportunity to perform live for all of you at GeeklyCon 2020 in Columbus, Ohio. The easiest way to do this is to assist them in a tour that will place them right where we need when we need. We’ll perform one song as part of the GeeklyCon 2020 live show that may or may not be from the album.
In addition, we’ll also do a separate show where we perform the entire album. We want it to be as easy for people to go to this show as possible, no matter your backing tier. However, we also don’t want you to have to pay for admission if you wont be at GeeklyCon 2020, so early admission to this show will be available via an add-on after you make your pledge. See instructions below for how to do that.
Below is a list of all rewards we’re offering as part of this campaign. Please see the individual tiers to see what’s included in each.
Name in thank you stream
Thank you for your support! We’ll make sure your name is displayed in the list of backers during our thank you stream!
Access to Kickstarter script
We wrote it as a screenplay and not everything made it in. We’ll give you access to a digital copy of that train wreck!
Digital copy of the album
A DRM free copy of the album for you to put on one of those usb sticks or mp3 players that are popular with the kids. Split the files up across multiple floppy disks and play the music in the school computer lab!
Physical copy of the album (CD)
Music is cooler with lasers and that’s why CDs exist! But also if you want something physical to put on the shelf to show that you were there when this all went down!
Access to a Bachmann DMed one-shot campaign
Bachmann has only DMed one time in his life for the Bride Tribe episodes of Greetings, Adventurers! This, however, will be much worse because it will be a campaign set in a world of his own making. Ever wonder what it looks like inside the mind of a mad-man with ADHD and impostor syndrome? Something a bit like this!
Name read out loud on thank you stream
You’ll still get to see your name in the text, but for this reward we will speak it to you, softly.
Physical copy of the album (Vinyl)
I’ll be honest: this reward exists mostly because we bought a turntable so my daughter could listen to my old Louie Armstrong records. That being said, it’ll still be sick to have the album on vinyl and we want that for you!
Bachmann Makes Your Character
I’ll roll you a new character and create a messed up one paragraph backstory for them. Keep in mind that my knowledge of the rules are sketchy at best so I’ll probably break a couple rules but I’ve spoken to your DM and they said it’s fine.
Access to Bachmann’s raw green screen footage
I went back and forth on this tier and I’m still not sure about it. I’m gonna record a bunch of stuff but Y’ALL HAVE TO PROMISE TO BE CHILL! I cannot be explaining to my friends and family that I didn’t actually make it into the Olympics. Not again.
Upon completion of the Kickstarter, I’ll be sending out a form where you can submit requests for things you want me to do or say in front of a green screen. (I get right of refusal on anything too…. well I get right of refusal.) I’ll then make that footage available to the backers of tiers that include this reward.
VIP Forum at Glass Bachmann Show
This will get you in the doors early at the concert in Columbus during GeeklyCon 2020. Get you some priority seating and get you in the door early for a Q&A about the album and the process of producing it!
Play in a One-Shot with Roll for Streetwise, DMed by Bachmann
Bachmann will DM a personal one-shot campaign over the internet for you and up to three friends, with the rest of the Roll for Streetwise gang filling empty spots, subject to availability! It’ll be weird and wrong and most certainly it will be an affront to your sensibilities!
To be clear, each backer gets to play in their own campaign. You wont be put in a game with any other backers unless you want to be! We’ll do a survey following the campaign to work out more specific details!
Signed set of dice
We’ll be partnering with DieHard Dice to create a custom metal dice set which we will all sign and send to you!
30k – Add Track 5 —- 35k – Add Track 6 —- 40k – Add Track 7
These goals are all on one line because we won’t finalize the track list until the songs are complete, but rest assured – the days are long but our spreadsheet is longer. We have ideas for characters old and new, as well as for some characters who won’t be introduced until closer to the album’s release.
50k – Add Track 8 – The Ballad of Harper
Why does this track cost more? Because this is going to be an extended epic rock opera track about the life of Lord Titus Harper. (Notice I said Lord, not King.) We are counting on Tim Lanning to fund this himself out of sheer vanity.
60k – Music Video
I know what you’re thinking. “Why would I want to see video when I exclusively listen to music and podcasts?” We couldn’t agree more, but William and J have a combined 15 years of video production experience and are threatening to sabotage the whole project if we don’t let them make a music video.
Luckily, all that experience means that while a really high quality music video can sometimes cost up to $25,000 or more on its own, we’ll be able to do it on a much smaller budget. Frank would be proud.
They’ve promised they can deliver something you’ll actually want to see at an extremely high quality with all of the resources and film production connections they’ve built over the years. I’ll take their word for it. I had my eyes surgically removed years ago when I discovered podcasts.
85k – Animated Music Video for The Ballad of Harper
Wouldn’t it be huge if we made it here? Wouldn’t it be just incredible if we were to make another music video but this one was fully animated? Wouldn’t it just drive everyone wild if we kissed?
Eh? What’s that last bit? Never mind. Because if y’all are insatiable enough to help us get to this point, we’re going to make an animated music video as a companion to The Ballad of Harper! This will truly be a sight to behold! Or it would be if I hadn’t had even more ears sewn into the sockets where my eyes once were.
Shipping for the album is $5 in the US if you get the CD and $10 if you get the vinyl as well. We will absolutely ship internationally, but it will cost a bit more. Domestic shipping for the “CAN I DRAW A DICK ON IT?” and above tiers is free. While we are hoping to receive the album before GeeklyCon, planning for the convention means that I likely won’t be able to ship rewards until August of 2020, barring any unforeseen delays. If we receive it in time, we will try to do a pickup option for those of you that are coming to GeeklyCon 2020. Of course, we will absolutely update you if anything delays our timeline.
Once you have made your pledge, you can add on concert tickets for the GeeklyCon 2020 concert in Columbus, OH by following these instructions:
1. Click the “manage your pledge” button on the project’s page.
2. Increase your pledge by the amount needed to claim the add-on(s):
Concert tickets are $10 and T-Shirts are $30.
3. Save your pledge. Do not change the tier that you originally pledged at.
Once you have completed these steps, please send us a message via Kickstarter so that I can add your name to the list. If you ordered a t-shirt, please include your shirt size!
You may be aware that Kickstarter employees (Kickstarter United OPEIU 153) are currently involved in a fight to be voluntarily recognized by Kickstarter. Everyone involved in Roll for Streetwise wants to make absolutely clear that we fully support the workers in this endeavor and have elected to move forward with the platform as Kickstarter United has indicated that they are not calling for a boycott of Kickstarter at this time.
Please join us in voicing solidarity and find out how you can help by visiting https://kickstarterunited.org/action/
Producing an album is no easy task, and a successful release will always require some form of support. While this support often comes from a label or similar entity, we are committed to making this a fan-funded work, giving us the freedom we need to create a product that you’ll love. Fortunately, glass beach is well-prepared for this sort of undertaking. They know what it takes to produce an album entirely themselves, on a near-zero budget. Your contributions will allow us to record in an actual studio, spend time making it perfect, print and distribute physical copies, and get the band out to GeeklyCon to play the songs for you live. Between glass beach’s experience with DIY music production and Bachmann’s passion for the stories and characters we’re writing about, we’re confident that we will be able to release an album that will satisfy any and all tabletop/music nerds who hear it.
