The Divine Canine Tarot is a full 78-card deck that centers around the untamed beauty of wild and mythological canines. The deck features iconic canids like wolves, coyotes, and foxes, more exotic species like African wild dogs, dholes, and tanuki, as well as mythological figures like Fenrir, Anubis, and Canis Major.
The deck has its roots in the classic Rider-Waite imagery, however, the cards are not carbon-copies of the classic cards. The artist has carefully considered which animal, location, and symbols to use in each card to best represent its intrinsic meanings.
The history of canines is intertwined with ours. Wild canines were seen as protectors, deities, and omens even before some evolved into man’s best friend. Listen to their windswept howls and learn from their ancient knowledge with the Divine Canine Tarot.
The Major Arcana features famous canid mythology and symbolism from around the world.
And many more!
Cups is set in the arctic, where beautiful white wolves and arctic foxes traverse an icy, coastal landscape. Antique goblets lay frozen in the snow, as if dropped by early arctic explorers only to be reclaimed by nature.
Swords is set in the woods. Majestic timber wolves and red foxes take center stage in the untamed wilderness, where rusted swords coated in moss tell the story of battles fought long ago.
Wands is set in the desert. Coyotes and jackals rule in this unforgiving land. Wands appear in the most simple, natural sense, as flaming branches carried in the jaws of the desert canines.
Coins (Pentacles) features unique canids from all around the world, including the tanuki, the kitsune, the african wild dog, and the maned wolf. The canids are featured with antique coins from their homeland to create thematically cohesive works.
The full color digital guidebook will be available to read online for free or download and print. Each card comes with a small artist’s comment explaining the chosen canine symbolism, and explanations for both upright and reversed card positions.
For those of you who prefer the feel of a book in your hand, you have the option to upgrade to a printed 5″ x 8″ full color guidebook. The physical copy of the guidebook will be exactly the same content as the PDF.
Both the printed and PDF version of the guide will include artist’s comments, card meanings for both upright and reversed positions, sample tarot spreads, and beginner’s guide on reading tarot cards.
The Divine Canine Tarot will come in a collectible rigid box to keep your cards safe from damage.
This two-part box measures 132 x 81 x 33mm (LxWxH) and will be finished with gloss lamination.
These cards are built to last! They will be printed on 350 GSM card stock with silver gilt edges. This card stock provides more visual contrast than standard stock, keeping the graphics printed on each card vivid in colors. The card stock is made to look cleaner, extra durable, and all in all, possesses a superior feel to them.
The cards measure the standard tarot card size of 2.75 x 4.75 (or 70mm x 121mm)
The majority of the funds will go towards printing and shipping the deck. If there’s anything left over, it will go towards paying me for the 300+ hours of work that went into the creation of this deck.
The Divine Canine Tarot is completely illustrated and ready to send to the printer! The only thing keeping them out of your hands is the fact that I lack the capitol to buy them up front. The moment Kickstarter releases the funds, they will be printed and sent right to your door.
