As a band, we are committed to creating both beautiful and meaningful music. We hope that our songs are able to touch the hearts of others, and show them how vital music is in today’s culture.
We are here to tell our story.
Flat Moon Theory was founded in Tallahassee, Florida. Each of our members are dedicated to creating beautiful music that is impactful towards our audience. As we are starting our college journey, we would like to share our very first album with all of you!
Christian Manuel – Guitarist, Vocalist
Christian’s first band was called, “Gasoline” which he created with Davis Johnstone in fourth grade. They have been creating music as a dynamic duo ever since! He is the front-man for two other bands, which are Samarium and Variation Four. He has worked diligently to create over five albums, and he still is striving to do more.
He is a passionate song writer, and a phenomenal guitarist. Over time, he has worked to perfect his craft. He hopes that his music tells enthralling stories and that his songs inspire all sorts of emotions when people listen to his music.
His two major musical influences are, “The Avett Brothers” and “The Beatles.” He is inspired by their influential sound, and their creative songwriting. If you are a fan of their music, please check out his previous albums on Spotify, especially his newest album, “Devil’s Jazz” by Samarium.
Mira Gaitanis – Violist, Vocalist
Mira started out as a solo violinist, but over the years a lot has changed. She has dabbled in all sorts of genres, and she switched to the Viola in seventh grade. She has been involved in numerous organizations including the Tallahassee Youth Orchestra, Acoustic Ensemble, and Fiddlers.
It was in Fiddlers where she first began to sing publicly. It was those experiences that helped her build the confidence to later join the Acoustic Ensemble. This is where she would work with Christian Manuel, Davis Johnstone, and Will Taylor to create beautiful music.
In Mira’s freshmen year of high-school, she was invited to join a band that would later become known as Flat Moon Theory. Over the last four years, she has really grown to appreciate the importance of her friends and their impact on her music. Being a part of Flat Moon Theory challenged her to grow not only as a musician but as a person. She wouldn’t be who she is today without them!
Davis Johnstone – Banjo, Vocalist
Davis is a music connoisseur! He can play a multitude of different instruments including but not limited to Banjo, Keyboard, and Drums. He has been a member of four other bands. They are known as, Samarium, Variation Four, and his newest addition, Stick With Me! Along with singing, Davis also enjoys musical theater.
He takes inspiration from many great jazz musicians such as Benny Green, Max Roach, John Coltrane, Ray Brown, and countless others. A few other key musical influences from various genres include, The Punch Brothers, Brand New, and The Avett Brothers. All these different musical aspects make up who he is; both as a person and a musician.
Davis stated that, “Music is my primary form of expression and I would be half the person I am without it. Music allows me to express how I truly think and feel in a completely redeeming way.”
Will Taylor – Cellist
Will started off on his musical journey at the ripe young age of seven. At this point, he was playing mostly classical music. Then, he joined the Youth Symphony Orchestra. Will began delving into different musical genres, such as blue grass, by joining the Acoustic Ensemble.
He said that, “I feel that music is, above all else, a means of communication. Be it classical, folk, or jazz, I believe that all genres of music have value, and that each one offers a vista of creative possibilities. The best art comes from where those genres merge.”
Some of his major musical influences band wise are, The Avett Brothers, The Punch Brothers, Strep Canyon Rangers, and The Infamous String Dusters. But he also has a soft spot for Baroque music.
Our album will consist of seven original songs. Some are written by one member and then preformed by everyone, while others are written in a collaborative effort. As a whole, the album has an acoustic vibe with elements of jazz weaved within it. Everyone has worked tirelessly to write music that they are proud to share with all of you. By combining our unique vocals, clever lyrics, and musical melodies, we have created a style of sound that is all our own.
This is our very first Kickstarter! We hope that through this medium, we are able to reach a wider audience of listeners.
We have done a majority of the legwork on our own. We have been working diligently over the past few months to record most of the songs for the album. We need your help with the production costs of publishing our music, printing the physical CDs, pins, and possibly t-shirts, if we meet that stretch goal.
Another way you can show support is by following us on Facebook (@FlatMoonTheory5) and Instagram (@flatmoontheory) and by sharing our Kickstarter campaign and our music.
Social media and word of mouth play a huge role in helping independent artists. If you enjoy our music please spread the word.
Thanks again for all the support, we can’t do this without you!
If you have any questions about the band or about our project, please don’t hesitate to ask! We will happily answer them!
Our main goal as a band for this Kickstarter is to get our album funded!
This means:
We will also have exclusive Flat Moon Theory pins for Kickstarter backers! These are limited edition, so get them while you can!
If we make more than our original goal, we have some amazing goodies planned!
At 1,200
At 2,000
Some of the potential risks and challenges for this project are that we are creating all of this ourselves. We have done all of the research on our own. Throughout this process, we have learned so much, and we will do our very best to make sure our products make it to your door safe and sound. We are also balancing our musical career with our college education. We have set the date for everything to be finalized by June 2020. We have done this so that we can have enough time to communicate with companies and get our products finalized and sent out to all of you wonderful backers! It’s better to meet that deadline earlier than expected than it is to be late! Also, this is an all or nothing project, so if we do not make our initial goal, we will not be able to make this dream a reality. If we make more than our initial goal, which would be phenomenal, we will put that money towards our stretch goals! Every dollar that you contribute will be funneled back into creating new music. We understand that it can be scary putting money towards something that you haven’t heard yet, but we promise that it will be worth the wait.
