When can one show their pregnant belly?

There is no particular time which is set for every mother to start showing their pregnant belly. This is because; every woman’s body is different. If one has become pregnant for the first time then they might begin to develop their baby bump when they reach their 12^th to 16^th week of pregnancy.

Once one conceives, many woman starts thinking when do it start showing pregnant? If it is not the first pregnancy, then one might also start showing their pregnancy belly sooner. This happens because the muscles present in the womb or the uterus has already become stretched because of the previous pregnancy.

When one becomes pregnant, in the early days, the uterus has a shape like a pear then for the next 12 weeks it starts becoming round gradually till it reaches to be the size of a grapefruit. After that the baby bump starts to form.

The early growth of the bump only happens because of the growing baby inside. Before 12^th week of pregnancy, the baby still remains as an embryo and nothing more than that. The baby thus does not need too much room. So, at that point of time the pregnant woman might feel a bit bigger and round in the middle as the uterus starts to thicken in order to support the tiny baby.

Once one reaches their 16^th week of pregnancy, then the uterus starts stretching so that it can be able to fit the growing baby inside. Then only the baby bump really starts to show.

Also, there are some other factors as well which can be minor reasons that from when exactly one will start to look pregnant. One’s age can also influence when one will start looking pregnant. Younger women are said to have stronger stomach muscles and so they can disguise their bumps for longer.

The genes can also affect that when one will start to look pregnant. If the baby bump started to show later then it might be the case that people from their mother’s side also faced the same. Hence the thing can happen.

One’s body size can also play a huge part on when one will start to look pregnant. If one has some extra body weight and that too around the tummy then the baby bump may stay hidden in the early phase of pregnancy. But as the baby keeps growing, the baby bump starts becoming visible.

Sometimes the belly can start expanding sooner than it is expected. There can be a lot of reasons behind this.

    • Bloating from the wind
    • Water Retention
    • Constipation
    • One can be pregnant with twins.

So, the answer to when do you show when pregnant is cannot be definite. But yes, there can be some instances where the belly can start showing late. One should not be very scared with this. This can happen if the uterus is positioned as tilted backwards. One can consult a doctor if they want to.
