A tool for beer brewers that wants a unique insight in the fermentation process. 100% non-invasive.
We have opened up a new reward: Buy a PLAATO to the beer brewer in your life!
PLAATO is a brand new way of analyzing your ongoing fermentation.
It’s an airlock – a reinvented airlock that sends information about your beer brewing fermentation straight to your phone, including:
For every single batch, a unique fermentation analysis report is generated that lets you analytically understand what’s going on.
PLAATO is in other words a digital hydrometer with some extra functionality.
Know when (and if) your fermentation starts, how the yeast actually works its way through the wort, and how temperature steps affects the rate of fermentation – Use the data to further understand.
Track the fermentation Plaato is always connected to internet and data is accessible through the Plaato App
In the fermentation process the glucose in the wort is mainly converted into ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide. The alcohol stays in the wort as liquid, and the CO2 bubbles up as gas. In other words, by knowing the amount of CO2 that has been produced – we also know the alcohol produced. This is exactly what Plaato does.
PLAATO measures the flow of CO2, and knows at any time the total amount of gas that has escaped the fermenter. This data is instantly included in our advanced algorithms and valuable data can be calculated.
The technique is in use by laboratories all over the world, but PLAATO is the first commercial product that utilizes this chemical relation and technology to give valuable information to beer brewers.
We have built a framework that let you connect all your PLAATO products into one app. Dive deeper into your data and learn the in´s and out´s of your brewing.
Getting deeper into the science of your brew is half the fun.
It helps you understand and recreate your results. PLAATO automatically generates an analysis report, including among others maximum and average fermentation activity, peak values, temperature extremes and other calculations from the specific batch.
Monitor how the yeast works it’s way through the wort.
PLAATO knows exactly the amount of CO2 the fermentation has generated. Specific Gravity is calculated from this, and sent to the PLAATO app, giving you the opportunity to follow the process first hand. This lets you know the fermentation activity at any given time. PLAATO uses the bubbles produced from the fermentation to monitor the the activity of your brew. By accurately counting every single bubble, the process can be monitored fully and non-invasive.
Our framework and app is configured to get data from every batch that the PLAATO’s connected to. All in one place. PLAATO is in other words a connected piece of equipment that is a:
The most important stage. Bask in the glory from friends and family who enjoy your beer and appreciate your craftmannship.
PLAATO setup – Prepare your brew as you always do, and measure the Original Gravity.
Plaato is designed by beer brewers. In other words, Plaato is 100% sanitizable, and is made of scratch-resistant Tritan®. We like to keep the fermenting wort on its own, that´s why we designed PLAATO in the same logic as a familiar airlock.
A: The lid – Black Tritan® twist-lock lid to minimize evaporation.
B: The bubble generator – Made of medical grade PP. Detachable and 100% sanitizable.
C: The main body – Clear Tritan® airlock for non-invasive measurement of CO2 generated in the fermentation process.
D: The «click on» sensor unit – With an integrated infrared CO2-sensor, thermometer, WiFi-connection and 3 LEDs displaying the fermentation activity. Tritan® polymer is used in Plaato. It’s FDA-approved, strong, sanitizable, scratch-resistant and as beautiful as glass.
PLAATO is made of food safe Tritan and is sanitizable with Star San, bleach or other commonly used chemicals.
PLAATO is designed to withstand overflowing fermentations.
The PLAATO collaboration
PLAATO is developed together with highly skilled partners in Norway within technology and beer:
No, absolutely not! We have talked extensively with professional brewers in Norway and their process during the fermentation process. We want to simplify those events and make it available to every brewer in an easy and accessible way, without hiring a bio-engineer.
We have tried, tested and redesigned the PLAATO more times than we want to admit. Our end goal has always been to make a product that we can all stand behind, and be proud of.
A special thank you to:

The team behind Plaato Inc. have commercialized several products over the last few years, and we’re looking forward to get the PLAATO Airlock into the hands of passionate brewers all over the world.
Naturally, there are challenges when developing new products, and we know time tends to go by faster than expected. However, we have taken many steps to assure that the PLAATO will work as promised, and that you will have it in your hands by the end of October:
*Funding:
Plaato Inc. has been externally funded for the past 12 months. This has given us the opportunity to build a dedicated and beer loving team located in Oslo, Norway. We have been able to work a lot on the development during these months.
*Manufacturers:
We have founded a strong and reliable supply chain and have established a close relationship with our manufacturer, including plastics, electronics assembly. Currently the manufacturer are working on the third iteration of a pre-production prototype, and only a few steps are left before the milling of the plastic injection molds can begin.
*Not a one-product-company:
Plaato Inc. is not here to make one product. Currently we have several beer-tech products in sight that will be announced shortly after this campaign – both for industrial and private beer brewers.
