KUWAIT, May 4th, 2018 (WAM) — Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Energy, has presided over the participating UAE delegation at the 10th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, which was organised in Kuwait.
During the meeting, the audience discussed the operational plan of the water security strategy in the Arab region to address the challenges and future requirements for sustainable development. The meeting reviewed the Arab countries’ efforts on the sustainability of water resources and protection from over-exploitation and pollution.
They also drew attention to the importance of the interrelationship between water, energy and food and the need to achieve balance among them.
The Secretariat-General of the Council also reviewed efforts that resulted in cooperation with other international and regional organisations regarding the implementation of a number of programmes and initiatives, which would have an impact on the integration of water resources.
While addressing the audience, Al Neyadi reviewed the UAE’s efforts on the sustainability of water resources and the country’s main strategy as well as its attention to the integration of water, energy, food and climate change, the UAE Rain Enhancement Award, the UAE Water Aid Suqia campaign, building dams, and other programmes.
The two-day conference saw discussions on the regional initiative for the interrelationship between energy, water and food sectors in the Arab countries and the strategy for water security in the Arab region to meet the future challenges and requirements for sustainable development. (WAM)
