A podcast about people who do science
My name is Toshiki Nakashige, and I am a chemical biologist based in New York. This is the Kickstarter for my project called Scientist, a podcast about people who do science.
Behind every scientific discovery are humans who dedicate their lives to understand something that has never been understood before, and I believe that this pursuit to expand human knowledge is a humbling and humanizing experience. The goal of Scientist is to explore the humanity in science. I’ll have conversations with scientists from a variety of fields. We’ll talk about science, and we’ll not talk about science. I want to give listeners, both in and out of science, a glimpse of personal narratives, motivations, and challenges of people who work in science.
To launch this podcast, I’m asking for help for me to travel to various institutions across the country and to have recorded conversations with scientists. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. If you are able to pledge $25 or more, you will have exclusive early access to the first episode of the podcast and other bonus material.
Audio will be recorded on a Zoom H4N PRO Digital Multitrack Recorder and edited using GarageBand and Adobe Audition.

I will be reaching out to scientists from various fields and institutions, and a few have already agreed to have recorded conversations with me. For the first series of this podcast, my goal is to have ten episodes featuring different scientists and themes. The podcast will be released by the end of 2017. I do not foresee any major challenges that will delay this launch date.
