Hey there! Roby Favretto and Caitlin Spears here!
We’ve embarked on an experimental quest to create a meta-theatrical, satirical dramedy based on our quirky experiences in the field of children’s entertainment. In CACTUS AND THE MIME, Trevor the Cactus and Mandy the Mime will attempt to re-enact their relationship history as a G rated show. Emphasis on ‘attempt’, because they don’t necessarily succeed. That’s why this work is STRICTLY FOR GROWN UPS ;) Bursting with horny pantomime unicorns, phallic mascots, talent show grudges, virginal puppets, mystery gifts and use of the word ‘metamorphosis’, the show will see Trevor and Amanda fight a ticking clock and the doubt in their dreams in pursuit of a hidden agenda …
It’s the depression of a clown being payed to smile for hours.
It’s the cobwebbed skeleton in the rainbow coloured closet.
And it’s premiering at the Melbourne Fringe Festival this September.
We met way back in 2014 while performing our final year productions at the Victorian College of the Arts. Playing a deranged Disney princess with faeces on her face and a malfunctioning alien robot dressed in spandex, it was love at first sight.
Since then, we’ve always joked about making a two man show for the Melbourne Fringe Festival together … wait … oh god its actually happening, please help us!
Since February this year we’ve been writing and producing this kick-ass show, finally completing what we’re hesitantly calling a ‘Rehearsal Draft’ at the top of this month with the help of our incredible dramaturge Christian Taylor (who won the Best Emerging Writer award for Melbourne Fringe 2016 so you know he’s a legend). We’re a small but conscientious trio hoping to make a big impact on Melbourne’s theatre scene, having already invested countless hours, countless hours and a countless amount of hours on our good friends Trev and Mands.
Now we need a bit of your help to make CACTUS AND THE MIME the best it can be!

Challenges always come with producing a new work, especially when we are not an established company with a budget. We are not expecting you to fully fund us, this campaign will form 50% of our production income and we would love you to be a part of it.
Challenges also arise in our quest to be environmentally friendly. In this day and age, it is important to look at our carbon footprint and how we can offset it. Therefore, we have taken the Sustainable Artists Pledge. We:
