Our school consists of students from PreK-5th grade. We are a community of diverse learners with Special Education, ELL, and high poverty students learning together in each classroom.
My Special Education students have difficulties being able to focus on learning and filter out the overwhelming sights and sounds of daily classroom routines.
Giving my Special Education students the opportunity to choose different ways to learn, will allow them to be successful in their learning skills, social skills, collaboration skills and maintain focus amongst their peers.
My students need sensory fidgets that help them focus on instruction while they feel anxious or unable to contain their behaviors. These items, such as wobble cushions, kick bands and sensory fidgets, will not teach new skills to my students, but they will help keep outbursts and/or behaviors to a minimum while increasing their focus and learning during instruction time.
The donations for this project will improve my Special Education students’ daily learning by reducing stress, reducing anxiety, and preventing sensory overload for Students with Autism by providing them the tools to become successful independent learners in their classrooms.
With less behavioral issues, instruction time increases and therefore my students will feel successful and love school.
