Everyone in my classroom is unique and a genius! We are a multi-age classroom in South Philadelphia filled with first and second grade students. Many are English Language Learners as well. Our classroom puts learners at the center, socially and academically. On the social side, the first graders look for guidance from the second grade students who know the ropes, while the second graders learn about mentoring, leadership, and collaboration.
Our school is in an urban setting and recently increased to over 40% English Language Learners (ELLs).
Our building is a registered historic building that was built in 1925. Many of our families work very hard but still struggle day to day. The students are a beautiful mix of Latino, Asian, African American, Caucasian, and other nationalities. Some of the languages spoken are Chinese, Khmer, Cambodian, and Spanish.
Imagine being in a split 1st/2nd grade classroom, learning to speak English, and trying to keep up with grade level expectations.
An Easel would provide a multitude of opportunities for my split level ELL filled classroom.
It would allow my students to come stand and show what they know with confidence. This versatile piece will be used for all subjects (math, reading, writing, science, social studies, art, and more). It will be use in whole group, small group, individual, and partner work. This particular learning station is magnetic and allows for felt activities. The possibilities are endless, as will be the learning!
Little Learners need tools that they can use at their level. This piece provides that opportunity. I am dedicated to providing my students with the resources needed in order to become successful and confident learners. Thank you for your support!
