Currently, I work in a fully inclusive school. Primarily, the players/students I educate are from the middle school grades (6-8); a majority of whom receive specialized instruction through Individual Education Programs (IEPs), while all students receive direct instruction in the inclusion setting. The needs of the students range from having a Specific Learning Disability to Intellectual Impairments and medical diagnoses include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and DiGeorge Syndrome. My students/players are eager to succeed and learn despite the barriers they encounter and would benefit from receiving this new equipment.
These students already face obstacles due to their need for specialized programs, not having the appropriate equipment makes the task even more difficult.
Due to budget cuts in our school, it is necessary for myself to do projects like this in order to supply the equipment needed for our sports team. My students appreciate all the opportunities they are awarded through the generosity of the many donors who have donated to past projects.
Having all this new PE equipment will allow my students/players to have the opportunity to participate in several more and improved activities and drills during class and practice. A trophy case for the gym will allow them to display their accomplishments on the field and on the court to everyone in the school. Storage equipment will allow us to store some of our new equipment more appropriately. New hockey sticks, basketballs, exercise mats, and resistance bands will allow us to replace the broken and worn out ones. The Hi Fi entertainment center will allow us to complete Fitness Gram testing activities and listen to music during gameplay. New shot puts and turbojavs will allow us to add another Unit to PE class as well as help with preparing students/players to participate on our new track team.
All students and players deserve the required tools necessary to have the opportunity to succeed.
So often my students/players do not have the appropriate equipment to be successful, through this project, my players will have the things they need to accomplish great things!
