Our first documentary, Mullumbimby’s Madness – the Legacy of the Hippies, featured how the alternates first found Mullumbimby and settled in the area. Once their basic needs were established, a culture began to grow. And this is the subject of our proposed 3 part series, which will be called Mullumbimby’s Magic – the Culture of the 70s-80s.
But there’s a problem
The ongoing sad loss of some of those early settlers is underlining the urgency of filming their oral histories. We want to continue making these films with international award-winning local filmmaker Sharon Shostak, who is uniquely positioned to deliver revealing, entertaining and thought-provoking films because of her childhood growing up with the early settlers.
Our historical society is a not-for-profit organisation run by dedicated volunteers who are determined to record these stories before they are lost.
Here’s what we are doing about it
We have already recorded over forty fascinating interviews on the 3 main areas of cultural flowering: The Arts, the Activism & Politics, and the Health & Well-Being. One of our treasured members of this early community has sadly since passed away; he was filmed just in time to capture his story.
These oral histories can now be edited and transformed into the highly entertaining documentaries you have come to expect from us. But here’s where we need support from you.
You can join us
With our first documentary we were generously supported by people connected to the communty who just happened to hear about what we were doing. This is a much bigger project, being a 3 part series, and we decided to put the invitation out to all, to help us achieve this ambitious documentation of our precious history. We are looking for $45K to professionally complete the series.
Will you join us?
And there’s some rewards for your wonderful support
Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible, or please check out our rewards which include autographed DVDs, framed posters, reserved seating at a screening or the Premiere and credits in the documentary.
