My students are hardworking individuals that reside in and around the Wichita, Kansas area. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and beliefs, making my classroom diverse and full of life! Many of my students come from rural households and a good percentage of those students are on free and reduced lunches. Despite their individual obstacles, they enjoy learning about how life on earth works and (most) are eager to learn about sustainability through the incorporation of school gardens.
These materials will benefit my students by providing them with the best opportunity at maintaining a school garden and learning about sustainability. These materials are hard to acquire due to lack of funds for education and my inability to purchase the materials with my own money.
The plastic totes will be used for a separate recycling project that I started last year for the school.
Right now, teachers use cardboard boxes lined with plastic trash bags as their recycling bins and I am looking to upgrade the recycling bins to plastic totes. Both students and teachers will benefit from the continued use of these plastic totes from year to years unlike the cardboard boxes that are replaced each year.
