Help us support Traditional Custodians to protect the stunning natural wonders of the Kimberley.
Oil and gas company Buru Energy is planning to frack the ancient Kimberley landscape, against the wishes of Traditional Custodians.
If Buru Energy fracks the Kimberley, it is estimated that up to 40,000 wells could be drilled in this pristine region. What’s even more alarming, Buru Energy has a history of gas leaks and well failures!
Two Traditional Custodians want to travel to Perth to speak at the Buru Energy annual general meeting (AGM) on 31 May – but they need your help to get there.
They will approach the board of Buru Energy and ask key questions. They will present information to the company asking them to seriously consider their decision to go ahead with their fracking plans. They will defend the natural environment, and their land, water and cultural rights from destructive fracking.
We need help raising funds to support the Traditional Custodians to personally attend the AGM, so they can be a voice for their communities and hold Buru Energy accountable.
The Traditional Custodians
Micklo Corpus
Micklo Corpus is a Traditional Custodian from the Yawuru people. For two and a half years he has camped at the gates of Buru Energy’s fracking site, to protect the land.
Dr Anne Poelina
Dr Anne Poelina is a Nyikina Warrwa Traditional Custodian from the West Kimberley region who is a long-time advocate for water stewardship and broad stakeholder regional governance of cultural, environmental and rangelands heritage.
They have both been vocal leaders in protecting country, advocating for their communities and the cultural preservation of the Kimberley. It’s vital that these Traditional Custodians have the opportunity to speak on behalf of their communities at the Buru Energy AGM.
Help get them to the AGM
The AGM is just weeks away, and we need to raise $2,000 to cover travel costs. Any extra funds raised will go towards our work keeping money out of environmentally destructive projects, and supporting the Traditional Custodians fighting to protect the natural environment.
All donations $2 and above are tax deductible! Please chip in and help us protect the Kimberley environment from destructive oil and gas.
