Taunton Public schools is a low income/high poverty school district. Our district ranks 13 of 217 for its size and ranks number 20 as most diverse. Here at J. we are no exception with an extremely diverse population of approximately 270 seventh graders. Approximately 55% of our 7th grade student body receive free/reduced lunch.
“Academic excellence for every student, in every classroom, in every school”, Taunton Public Schools’ motto.
We truly believe that our students deserve opportunities as diverse and unique as they are.
Our 7th graders are the leaders in our middle school. They will be graduating and heading to the high school next year. This cruise is a culminating activity to thank our students for all their hard work. We reward them with an exciting trip. Sadly, many of our students have never been on a boat before. Also it is an educational field trip setting them up for American History next year.
We would like to take our students on a field trip into Boston aboard the Spirit of Boston as a culmination adventure after studying about the Siege of Boston in our Social Studies classes.
Students will examine and explain primary source documents relating to the Siege of Boston with critical analysis. After analyzing primary documents from civilians and soldiers in Boston, they will develop historical knowledge and habits about an event that happened right here in our state capital. After examining the events that took place, students will then identify various historical places where these events happened in and around the Boston Harbor.
