La Sequita is part of Montecristi, a prosperious canton of Manabí. The main economic activity is agriculture. Sra. Genny is 50 years old, married, and has six children. Four of her children are grown and independent. The other two, ages 15 and 16, attend high school. Her husband is a merchant who sells fruit and legumes. Genny has obtained loans for her husband so that he can continue his fruit and vegetable business. He works Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays by selling in the city of Manta between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Their son accompanies him to the wholesale market so that they can obtain the best products for his customers.
With this new loan her husband plans to buy pineapples, tomatoes, peppers, lima beans, pinto beans, limes, and other products. Genny has been with her Communal Bank for 38 loan cycles and enjoys being a member because of the low interest rates. Her dream is to have a store in her house.
