A loan of $3,000 helps me expand my clothing line styles for women and children and allows me to purchase a pop-up tent to sell from different spaces.

Sandra’s story

Hello my name is Sandra, I have lived in Oakland CA since 1985, I came to USA at 21 years from La Palm, Michoacan, Mexico. I left my country because a lady give me the opportunity to bring me to work for Shaklee Products, a vitamin company, and to study English. I worked for 10 years for the company while also working a second job at Emerald packaging where I worked for 12 years. I got married in 1991 and I continued working both jobs until 2000.

I started a job at a travel agency and opened a business called East Clothing selling new and used clothing and gifts in 2012. The travel agency closed in 2013. I started working at Cacique, a cheese and sour cream, food manufacturing company.

My clothing clients kept me going between my full-time jobs. My husband and I have 2 wonderful daughters Sandra and Sairanet, Besides running my clothing business, I now work part-time caring for 2 seniors.

More about this loan

Business Description

I created East Clothing company because I realized people in the community were interested in buying used clothing as well as new. I sell used clothing because I saw that my big family was leaving a lot of good clothes and that there was a market to share with the community.

I have been doing good selling used clothing, but my clients have been asking me to get new styles so I started purchasing new blouses for women and smaller items for children.

East Clothing is actually a mobile business. My clients are household wive’s mostly. I make appointments, three-to-six clients a day during the buys days. I visit around 15-20 clients a week. In total I have more than 50 families that I visit each month. My customer list is expanding as I grow my client referrals from word of mouth referral.

What is the purpose of this loan?

purchase my clothing on discount sales from Sears outlets and other nearby factory outlets during off peak times. I visit many small retailers around Oakland and San Leandro to find children’s clothing and accessories. Many times I look for specific items that my customers request and I act as a personal shopper. I want to buy blouses in bulk which will help me expand my customer base and allow me to operate in a Pop up manner.

Buying a Popup tent allows me to expand my opportunities to sell at different events and at in high traffic areas like commercial parking lots.
