Statement of Purpose Young talented musicians in underprivileged communities are challenged by their circumstances, are often misguided or have a lack of vision and belief to turn the dream of becoming a professional musician into a reality. This challenge is reflected through limited finance and the inability to access quality education in music.
Community Upliftment Music School
Introduction
Music is the number one target that lures youth to follow a certain way of life, dress code etc. Music also helps children/ people express themselves through pain and hardships, fears, etc
At the music school a group of young people are offered the opportunity to further their talents through learning theory and practical
Who we are
Phase II Music School in association with Home Of Compassion Ministries has been birthed through the vision of Warren Stoffels, where he saw a need for a music institute within the Community, through associations with different church and recreational bands within the community.
What we want to do
In light of the challenges (particularly among the youth population) and with the desire to grow and uplift the community, Phase 2 Music school vision and desire is to establish an affordable professional music institute within the community.
The initial aim of this music institute will be to both birth and grow young musicians by opening a music school with the same quality and accreditation of competing music institutions.
Challenges
The financial challenges are a definite hiccup and this is part of the reason why we are trying to arrange for funders or partners to assist in this matter, having teachers who are as qualified as Spencer Mbadu and others from UWC and CMI on board add great value to the school as the level of teaching is of a high calibre.
We have also managed to secure a building space that we utilise and plan to buy in the near future, this allows us to be open for students to come and practice after school or during school holidays, many of them cannot afford their own instruments and this facility not only gives them access to instruments but also keeps them away from negative influences.
Our Funding needs
Tipping Point – R20 000.00 – This funds will enable us to source more instruments for the influx of students coming to the music centre
Milestone – R100 000 – These funds will help us to secure the venue we are currently renting for a full year for Music School to commence- it will also enable us to ensure that Students will have access to good quality musical education through Trinity, where we would have the ability to source music manuals and help students achieve musical grades and registered qualifications
The Phase 2 music school teaching team consist of our Principal Warren Stoffels and 4 teachers with a real heart for community and a passion for music.
This initiative was birthed through Warrens love for music and passion for youth in the community, to be able to teach them a skill to help them break free from the limitations and oppression of everyday life.
He then partnered with 4 like-minded and equally talented musicians to share in this amazing vision.
Our teachers are:
Emil van Rooien (guitar teacher) studied music at UWC performing arts centre
Nathan Stephens(Piano teacher) studied music at UWC performing arts centre.
Godwin Mentoor(Drum teacher) completed his 2 year course at Cape Music institute on the drums with flying colours.
Our most decorated teacher by far would be Spencer Mbadu, legendry bass guitarist and one of SA best Jazz bass guitarist of all time.
