Healthy, delicious chickpea based food which is vegan, gluten free, soy free and nut free. I want to make healthy food affordable and available readily to the public.
CHICKPEA PROJECT – MORE THAN HUMMUS
This is a way of cooking that I started for health and conservation purposes. Just over a month ago I started selling my products and realised what a massive demand there is for vegan food that is already cooked and versatile, basics. Within weeks of starting, I had a sold out Vegan Goods Market, was invited to cook at Greenpop’s Reforest Festivals, supplying PLANT, and so much more.
The food I make is so simple that people with allergies, such as gluten, eggs, dairy etc can also enjoy food which they normally could not eat. And it’s good for the planet and the animals too.
WHO AM I ?
My name is Jasmin-lee Tupper, dedicated single parent to an incredible child who I hope is learning a better way of living. The Chickpea Project actually began in May 2015. I was doing strength training and my trainer told me I needed more protein, as an avid animal lover I was not prepared to eat meat.
I started investigating nutrition at this time and stumbled across Chickpea Flour! I immediately started experimenting. I made vegan pastas, banana breads, you name it , I have made it. At the time though I was living in St.Francis Bay and the ingredients often had to be couriered in from as far away as Durban. At the same time a well known supermarket franchise expressed an interest in some of my products. I did not end up supplying them as I do not use preservatives and I did not have a HACCP approved kitchen to cook from. So it was abandoned as such. Just the selling part , not the eating part :)
Chickpea Ice Cream with Chai and Carob Biscuit ( Vegan, Gluten Free)
Forward to Friday 13 2017…… I have been living in Cape Town for a year and am designing and manufacturing clothes. As much as I am enjoying this I am also asking myself this question , “If I was put in a strange city with R1000, what skill do I have, what passion do I have that would enable me to turn that into more?” Lightening Bolt moment!!! I love to cook, I love animals, I love nature! And so push “PLAY” and the project began again!
GOAL
My goal is to supply more restaurants/deli’s and eventually retail stores with more food options to Vegans and people with food allergies. Food that is nutritious, delicious and quick to prepare. As many of us know, having to still cook after being at work all day and stuck in traffic….it’s not always our favourite thing to do. Not only that but finding affordable healthy snack for lunch is sometimes a problem.

MONEY GOAL!
TIPPING POINT: R40,000.00
This amount will allow me to fund a small industrial kitchen, and employ someone to help me out with all the prep work and packaging. It will also allow a website to be created where people can order online. With an industrial kitchen I can also start making a wider food range.
R80,000.00
WOW!!! This would be enough to put a deposit on a delivery vehicle to spread the goodness around!
GOAL: R150,000.00
The Ultimate! This would enable me to have the kitchen, the vehicle and a glorious little deli filled with delicious food that caters to so much more than a vegan lifestyle, beautiful food prepared for anyone with food allergies, kind to nature, kind to animals.
Chickpeas……So much more than Hummus!
Thank you
I’m a woman on a mission! With a passion for healthy food, animals and nature, and the people who co-exist within this environment, I want to feed people nutritious, affordable food, there is so much more to chickpeas than hummus!
