The SDG Media Zone, powered by PVBLIC Foundation, the office of the United Nations Envoy on Youth and United Nations Foundation, will report from the ECOSOC Youth Forum from January 30th-January 31st, welcoming media influencers, journalists, bloggers, celebrities, and high-level delegates to join the conversation, generate discussion and engage the global online community.
Having evolved significantly over the last years and today representing the most institutionalized way for youth participation into the official UN processes, the 2017 ECOSOC Youth Forum which will take place at the UN Headquarters on 30-31 January will once again bring the voices of young leaders and youth representatives to the United Nations.
With “The role of youth in poverty eradication and promoting prosperity in a changing world” as the theme, the forum takes place at a critical historical juncture as the world is struggling to respond to the negative effects of globalization. In that context, the forum will provide a platform to discuss concrete actions to realize the Sustainable Development Goals at regional, national and global levels and ideas on how best to communicate the 2030 Agenda to young people and the general public. Its outcome will contribute to the to the High-level Political Forum convened under the auspices of ECOSOC and the High-level Segment of the Council in July 2017.
Participants will include youth delegates and representatives, including from National Youth Councils and regional organizations, representatives from the children and youth Major Group and from youth-led and youth focused organizations and networks, including those in consultative status with ECOSOC. The presence of the ECOSOC President, the Secretary-General, the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth as well as Youth Ministers is also expected.
