This amazing slicing knife has been a best seller for nearly 50 years. Refashioning the original from 1968 will slice its cost!
My 1968′ DUX slicing knife is starting to show its age. It is a pity, for it is unequivocally one of the best slicing knife ever made. It is so good that it is still sold today, almost 50 years later, by a famous Swiss company – albeit in a slightly different form factor, and a definitely premium brand price tag.
What’s unique about this model? A rigid, adjustable aluminium guide combined with a tilted 21cm (8.26′) sharp steel blade allows precision slice cutting anywhere between 1 and 15mm. This knife cuts delicately through your ingredients, both hard and soft, cooked and raw, with ease and exact regularity!
It’s a proven and truly excellent knife that outlasted every other knife I have ever owned.
The issue is that replacing this model would cost a steep premium that is not really justified any more, but cheaper alternatives available on the market are just not up to the level of the original. Granted, the new model is likely superb, but my knife’ patent having fully lapsed, it’s design is now public. Is the new version such an improvement? Mine has been validated by almost half a century of continuous use! With modern techniques and top quality steel, we can make this knife available again, at a fraction of the cost of the current version. It will also come with a 10 years blade warranty and improved ergonomics!
This project aims to make the best slicing knife available again, and accessible to most at a fraction of the cost.
Baourouge is the brand name I registered in France to distribute objects I find to bring usefulness, beauty and value. This knife would definitely meet the criteria. With your help, I will be able to secure and test the best materials to assure the design compliance with my original: weight, rigidity, balance, and adjust the handle to give it a modern touch.
Your support will help me meet the commitments made to the suppliers and assemblers to warrant the overall quality and improve on the design.
Have a look at the video and see by yourself how that old timer of a knife remains one of the very best after all those years.

I have had patent lawyers validating that my project is legal and sound, and checked with the relevant offices that the design patent reference on my original was indeed now public. The remaining risks on that project should be minimal, and concern suppliers control, mould adjustment and tests to assure of the final quality prior to commercial release.
