Craft Beer in Taiwan
Modern House Brewing Company is to be a brewery/brewpub serving fresh takes on classic Taiwanese stir-fry dishes and barbecue with a beer production capacity of 200 barrels. In addition to in-house sales, the brewery will use the remaining capacity to distribute to the local market, thus positioning Modern House Brewing Company as a brewpub and production brewery. Modern House Brewing Company’s brewing operations will be run by Chris Kirkpatrick, Senior Trainer at Saudi Aramco. Our local partner Rocky Chang, who is familiar with the food and beverage industry, will manage the brewpub operations.
The craft beer movement has already saturated markets in many countries around the world. The concept of beer and food of the freshest and highest quality resonates with people everywhere. In the U.S. now, a brewery opens every 16 hours. In Taiwan however, the market for craft beer has only just begun to take hold. In a country of more than 23 million people, there are only 5 brewpubs in operation.
The brewpub will be located in central Taiwan in the city of Taichung. With a population of 2.3 million, an international airport, a large science-based industrial park and a convenient central location, Taichung is a great city to start a business in Taiwan. The brewery will be located near Taichung in Puli Township, which is well known in Taiwan for its high-quality water.
