Nina’s story

Hola! My name is Nina and I am a classically trained Chef from San Antonio, TX . I currently work at the The San Antonio Food Bank where I have the great honor of being able to feed those who don’t always have the ability to feed themselves. When I am not feeding children or seniors (my passion) I am working relentlessly to build a plant-based business here in my hometown. My dream is to own an Artisan Ice Cream + Coffee Shop that sources local and seasonal plant based and whole foods and products. I want to build a company in my community that supports other local, small businesses and gives back when we have the opportunity.

This loan is special because:

It allows an aspiring entrepreneur to expand her business and provide a stable income for herself.

More about this loan

Business Description

Hermanas is a small business based out of San Antonio, TX that specializes in making small batch, artisan plant based ice cream. The company was started in 2015 after deciding to make the switch to 100% whole foods, plant based diet for health reasons. The search for local, quality plant based ice cream options in my hometown was non-existent so after a lot research and no findings, Hermanas was born. The biggest hurdle that we face as a small business is getting the capital for equipment to help us expand and keep up with consumer demand. Are customers run the full spectrum of individuals but young adults ages 25-35 have been our solid base bringing with them their children and family. Currently we are only selling at farmer’s markets, festivals and parks but we would like to expand and have a mobile ice cream truck and brick and mortar someday! Hermanas has been hit since day one, we have gained a great share of success but I am most proud of our continued unwavering commitment to making the finest quality plant based ice cream and giving back to our community through donations and volunteer work when we aren’t producing.

What is the purpose of this loan?

This loan will allow us to purchase equipment to keep up with demand of our product. A lot of business has been homebound and limited in production because we don’t have the specialized equipment to take our business to the next level in terms of production. This loan will help me produce a steady income as production will be tripled with the purchase of new equipment and allow us to be put back into the business as well as give back to our investors and community.
