I am a single mom born and raised in South Carolina. Eight years ago I earned my doctorate in Educational Psychology. Five and a half years ago I adopted my son. He is now 10 years old. We currently live in Maryland and I work for one of the school districts. Well, that’s my day job. Additionally, I do photography, sell promotional items and design team uniforms and fan wear. Primarily, I do all of these things for youth leagues. Ironically enough I actually entered the design and promotional world while I was teaching middle school more than 15 years ago. I have a very competitive nature and made a huge deal about my class participating in and winning the most field day events. This became an annual affair and I wanted my students to have apparel for the day. So, we became the “Porchea’s Playaz” and dawned embroidered visors, t-shirts, basketball shorts and even waved around screen printed rowdy rags!! We were winners and looked the part!! Of course other teachers became interested in having apparel for their classes as well and an entrepreneur was born. I not only provided apparel for field day, I began going out to other schools obtaining orders for school t-shirts etc.
In my mind, it’s just a matter of time. If I can successfully earn a doctorate, and parent my son; Nothing will stop me from being a successful business woman!!
