‘The Over There’ is a Swinburne Graduate short drama film set in the 1990’s where Husband and Wife, Lou & Linda must deal with the backlash and turmoil created after Lou’s brother Lem shows up at the pub in the small country town of Margot.
With Lem having previously thought to of fallen off the edge of the world, Lou & Linda face harsh backlash as accusations begin that the world is round and does not end at their property. Lou, Linda, and the town must all come to terms with their lost identity and look for someone to blame for their ignorance.
In creating ‘The Over There’, we wanted to look at the fear of the unknown that has been consistently prevelant in Australia. Unwillingness to change and a dislike of it have been a constant theme in Australia’s narrative, with many often more willing to choose ignorance rather than adapt and update.
These are the friendly folks trying to bring it to life.

We’re fortunate enough to be using the beautiful town of Toora in South Gippsland for our shoot. While it is very pretty, it is a long way away, and so much of our budget is dedicated to transporting, feeding, and accommodating the cast and crew making this possible!
If you’ve ever tried, you’ll know that creating ‘the edge of the world’ comes with its own set of challenges. A number of scenes will require VFX, which doesn’t come cheap. We reckon what we’ve got in mind for it will knock your socks off though.
In addition, we’ve got to dress actors and sets, to make them look like they should. Once we’ve done that, there is a stack of other equipment to hire in order to do the beautifully dressed actors and sets justice when we film them.
We’re students ourselves, so we know better than most that money is tight! Whatever you are able to spare is hugely appreciated and we’ll forever keep you in our good books.
Hopefully there is a reward over on the right that piqued your interest. Those of you in the know should grab a Victor Bravo L/S Polo while you still can!
Much Love,
The Over There Team
