Rocio’s story

My name is Rocio and I am from Michuacan, Mexico. I came from a very poor family like many of the people from the region. Life growing up was challenging for all of us. Drugs ruled community life all around us. I decided to come to the United States when I was 17 to escape the drug trade. I wanted a chance to find a job, raise a family and live in a home that had electricity and running water.

This loan is special because:

It supports a working mother progressing her community-focused lingerie business.

More about this loan

Business Description

Like many immigrant women I began working in the U.S. by taking care of children, babysitting for other women in my community. I did this for many years while I raised my son and daughter who are now in their teens. A few years ago I began cleaning homes because I could make my own schedule and I was able to work for myself. I began selling herbal life, a multi-level marketing health product on the side to my neighbors. I have sold allot of different products to many members in my community and I decided I wanted to branch out and sell clothing to women. in my community.

Three months ago I began selling lingerie to my women friends. I realized there was a strong demand as many Hispanic women are too shy to go to a store to purchase lingerie. Many of the women in my community speak Spanish and there are not many stores that cater specifically to Hispanic women.

I sell bra’s, night gowns, stockings and other sexy clothing that make women feel better about themselves and provides them with a more intimate experience with their partner.

What is the purpose of this loan?

Provides me with working capital to expand into a new line of business.
