Onetown Boards
Onetown Boards is developing longboards that track the rider’s performance and feature powerful LED lights to increase visibility at night.
Hi! We are Onetown Boards, we are developing a board that tracks and records the skater’s performance with the additional safety measure of increasing visibility at night. Our longboards have seamlessly integrated censors that track the rider’s performance, display their speed, altitude, skate duration, and distance traveled- all conveniently recorded and accesible on a mobile app. These boards also feature powerful LED lights to ensure safety when riders skate at night. The LED lights are also controlled through the mobile using a bluetooth connection.
MOBILE APP
FEATURES
– 4 Powerful LED lights: 2 in the nose (front) of the board and 2 in the tail (back)
– Accelerometers, gyroscope, and GPS receiver to track orientation, tilt, movement, and speed
– Bluetooth connection allows the skater to control and monitor the board with their mobile phone
– Fiberglass construction increases the durability and lifespan of the board
– Mobile app controls the LED lights on the board
– Mobile app displays the skater’s performance and stores their data on their phone
– Water proof
– Shock proof

OUR STORY
We are a startup longboard company based in Miami,Florida. Our goal is to create high quality durable longboards with integrated technology that enhance the skating experience. We increase the rider’s visibility while skating at night and allow them to track their performance with sensors that are integrated into the deck.
About two years ago, when I graduated from high school, the idea for Onetown Boards came to me as a solution to a problem that many longboarders like myself experience everyday. We do not feel safe while skating at night. A fear that became more present after I had and acident on my longboard. In fact, in North Miami (the city where I live) a teenager was struck and killed by a car skating at night. If you find that upsetting, consider that roughly 70% of skating related deaths occur due to limited visibility at night. We are a startup longboard company based in Miami,Florida. Our goal is to create high quality durable longboards with integrated technology that enhance the skating experience. We increase the rider’s visibility while skating at night and allow them to track their performance with sensors that are integrated into the dec.
Apart from the danger of skating at night with limited visibility, there is no longboard in the market that records the rider’s performance. We surveyed hundreds of longboarders and found that most of the time riders want to know how they are performing. Surprisingly, in our era of advanced technology, a non-motorized board that measures the rider’s performance does not exist. We wanted to make something that was different, something that stood out and could potentially revolutionize the skateboard/longboard industry while saving lives in the process. We came up with a longboard that would solve the problems that skaters deal with but that nobody was paying attention to.
After we (Felix and Socrate) started attending college at MDC in the fall of 2014, we began taking the idea more seriously. We presented the idea as a class assignment with a group and were recommended to participate in The Idea Center’s Start Up Challenge in February 2015. During the challenge, we were able to build 3 prototypes. On May 20th, 2015, we won first place and $5,000 in seed money to develop the idea further. We were featured on NBC, the college newspaper, The Miami Herald, and Telemundo. By the end of the competition, we also had our website up onetownboards.com and added Blake Gregorisch, a physics major, to our team to work on product development. We are now raising the necessary funds here on Idea.me in order to finalizing our final prototype in and begin purchasing the necessary equipment to make the beta boards here in Miami.

If we don’t reach the 100% of the funding goal, we will use it to do the following:
-
WITH THE 10%
We will invest in the circuit boards that will go inside of our decks.
-
WITH THE 25%
We will invest in marketing Onetown Boards in order to raise the necessary capital to move on to the next stage.
-
WITH THE 50%
We will order the parts needed for our beta boards.
-
WITH THE 75%
We will purchase the heavy duty machines needed to further develop and get us closer to a small scale production!
