Salomé by Gale Theatre Company is a new physical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s story about one of the bible’s most seductive, dangerous, and unknown women: Salomé, Princess of Judea. Salomé has been written about for centuries but her story always ends with her dance of the seven veils and demand for the death of John The Baptist. But, what happens beyond that death?
Our production starts at the “end” of Salomé’s known journey, as she attempts to make sense of life now that everything she knows has changed. How does she forgive herself ? How does she identify herself after she has been identified by so many others? How do we, as people, find a moment of reprieve in the midst of trauma?
$4000 to help pay our artistic team. Yes, ALL funds from this campaign go directly to our artists.
We have already received a grant from the City of Austin, which will cover much of our talent and materials costs. The VORTEX, our fiscal sponsor, has generously provided us with performance space and other materials so we can direct our indiegogo earnings toward paying talent. It is the goal of the Gale Theatre Company to make creative labor sustainable for all artists involved.
Our team is putting in countless hours to make this play come to life and we are committed to support our artists in tangible ways. Art can and should be able to pay the rent and put food on the table. Every thing you contribute allows us to support the creative life of an artist.
We have lots of awesome perks on the right side of the screen. Check em out! Gifts for your contribution can include tickets to the show, handmade postcards from King Herod (aka actor Tim Mateer), personal serenades, music lessons, actor training, baked goods, dinner with our artistic team, and a custom made music video from our cast.
Gale Theatre Co is dedicated to presenting original physical theatre, training actors, and community collaboration. We strive to make performance that is physically daring, aesthetically arresting, emotionally compelling, and ensemble driven.
Gale started in Austin, TX in 2013 and we have done a whole lot in a short time. Over the past 3 years, we have devised 3 original plays, won awards (nominated for over 10), hosted 25 actor training workshops (training over 354 participants), held 2 staged readings, held 2 development workshops for new plays, launched a website, toured to New Orleans & Houston, produced 6 music videos (with over 75,000 watches online), and began developing our next work, Salomé, which will premier in Austin in August.

We are so proud to be partnering with The VORTEX on their Radical Rush program that reserves a bloc of free tickets in the spirit of sustainability, accessibility, and participating in the gift economy. Radical Rush tickets are released an hour before the performance starts–first come first serve. Your donation to this campaign allows us to offer our show to all patrons, regardless of their socio-economic status.
