Our campaign is designed to raise funds for the Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) Radio Station on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
Anyone who has ventured in South Australian waters will have heard “Carol from VMR American river” on the VHF Marine Radio. She is an amazing volunteer, providing near 24 hours, 7 days a week radio coverage for the ocean waters surrounding Kangaroo Island and the Gulf of St Vincent. Carol is a vital part of maintaining maritime safety in the area: logging vessel movement, providing weather and safety message reports, and receiving distress and emergency transmissions for local sea-farers.
But Carol now needs our help. The station is having some real financial challenges paying for ever-increasing electricity bills. A small group of us from local sailing and boating clubs are raising funds to install solar panels at the station. This has a two-fold benefit:
Show your appreciation for Carol and her never ceasing efforts to make our waters a safe place. Please donate to this worthy and truly local cause through this crowd-funding site and, when finished, pass the message onto your friends via email or Facebook. How easy is that?
Our initial aim was to provide funds for a 6.4 kW system. But, given wide spread support, we are also going for solar battery storage to enable night coverage. So our the new target is $10,000. Be part of this fantastic campaign and help Carol go solar!
