A CHARITABLE FUNDRAISER BY
RESURRECTION AFTER EXONERATION
After serving 18 years in prison, including 14 on death row, for a crime I didn’t commit I was exonerated and released back into society without anything. I began Resurrection After Exoneration (RAE) to help men and women like me put their lives back together. We provide transitional housing, counseling, legal and healthcare referrals, and job training. Over the last eight years we’ve helped hundreds of people re-enter society. This Sunday night, Resurrection After Exoneration was burglarized and robbed of all its outreach equipment.
When you enter the RAE House you see art, computers, small businesses, and the smiles of those who call it home. When I came in on Monday, it was all gone.
Thousands of dollars worth of electronics, including computers and laptops that are used for job searches and resume building, were stolen. All the barbershop equipment for our mentorship program for young aspiring barbers was stolen. Black owned Barber shops have a long held position in American society as a place that not only provides haircuts but serve as a community hub in which to discuss politics, community news and entrepreneurial opportunities.
RAE house has also been a community hub for people who have nowhere else to turn. When you give a gift today, you’ll not only help us replace the things that were stolen, you’ll also be replacing the hope, opportunity, and support those things helped create.
