Chesham Musical Theatre Company are searching for financial backing to put on our next major production: Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!
Formed in 1922 and now in our 94th year, Chesham Musical Theatre Company is Chesham’s oldest amateur theatre company.
In our 95th year CMTC plan to perform something special and we have been lucky enough to be one of the very few amateur companies granted the performance rights to “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” following its smash hit run in the West End and on the UK Tour featuring, amongst others, Jason Donovan.
Priscilla is actually the name given to the lavender-hued bus that two drag queens (Mitzi and Felicia) and a transgender woman (Bernadette) take west across Australia to an hotel in the remote resort town of Alice Springs. The three of them have a fun, glamorous and hilarious journey; one that audiences love, with a disco sound track that has people dancing in the aisles that includes “Boogie Wonderland,” “Hot Stuff,” “I Will Survive” and many other massive hits.
We currently have a membership of over 100 members, all of whom will be working towards making this the best production possible. Of course a show of this calibre requires not only an outstanding cast and company, but also the funds to do justice to this fabulous production. The upfront costs are the most pressing issue, but even then we would love to make this the visual spectacle that it deserves to be with the set, costumes and props to do it justice, but which might otherwise be beyond our reach.
We are a well-known amateur theatre group with a well-deserved reputation for producing high-quality musical theatre shows. In fact, our most recent production of Jesus Christ Superstar was recently nominated for Best Musical at the London NODA Awards, and our figurative trophy cabinet is groaning with plaudits and awards reaching back over decades. We would love you to join us aboard Priscilla and to come along on what promises to be an exciting journey – come and join the party, darlings!
