A Film and Theatre project United Kingdom
We are staging Broken Strings at the Tabard Theatre in September 2016. Not only is the play broke but so are we so please help!
Broken Strings is a heart warming, dramatic and thought provoking new play by Joe Wenborne.
The inspiration for the play came from Joe’s true life experience of caring for his own elderly and infirm mother. Joe explains, “Dad used to look after Mum, cook, clean, everything, but when he died Mum couldn’t cope on her own so she came to live with my wife Sheila and I. Mum could be difficult and the thought occurred to me that if I died what would Sheila do and how unfair it would be to ask her to look after my mother. At the same time, where would Mum go?”
From the seed of that dilemma came the plot for Broken Strings. It tells the poignant and at times humorous story of how two people, damaged by bereavement, uneasy in each others company but emotionally and physically locked together discover the truth about themselves and in so doing, begin to understand one another better and deal with the pain they are going through.
Bringing together two of theatres most endearing stage and television actors, Broken Strings stars Steven Arnold as David (Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street) and Linda Clark as Rose (whose notable roles include the Carrionite Witch in Dr Who, Jackie Busher in That Peter Kay Thing and Janet Dent in Coronation Street).
We’re lucky to have received an initial investment to secure a three week run at the Tabard Theatre, Chiswick in September but we still need to raise more to realise our goal of a full production.
As well as the support of two fantastic Actors, we have brilliant set, costume & lighting designers waiting in the wings ready to jump in and help turn our black box into an exciting space to tell the story.
We’re also looking to the future and taking the production on a UK tour and all contributions towards our target will get us one step closer to our goal.
