TASTEX COMMUNITY SOLAR PROJECT
Welcome to Tassie’s first ever community funded solar project!
WHO WE ARE
Tastex is a not-for-profit knit mill, based in Glenorchy, Tasmania. We provide meaningful employment and training to people with intellectual disabilities, and are self-funded through our product sales.
OUR AIM
We wish to convert our factory to solar power and save an estimated $7,000 per year on electricity bills. We need to raise $36,000 to do this.
WHY SUPPORT THIS PROJECT?
- Support employment for people with intellectual disabilities.
- Reduce Tasmania’s reliance on fossil fuels and combat climate change.
- Showcase the benefits of converting to solar power to other community organisations.
- Donate before 30 June and claim an immediate tax deduction.
MORE ABOUT US
Tastex has been in the textile industry for 45 years. We use AUSTRALIAN WOOL and supply uniforms to over 100 schools and organisations Australia wide. We currently employ 25 staff, including 17 people with intellectual disabilities. Over the past few years we have increased employment and reduced our offcut waste through diversifying our business with new and exciting product lines, including our hugely successful Envirowoollies, filled with recycled wool offcuts.
Your tax-deductable donation towards the Tastex Solar Project is an investment in future employment opportunities for people who need a supportive environment to work in.
WHY CONVERT TO SOLAR POWER?
We provide outstanding quality in a world of cheap imports. But it gets more difficult each year. We need to do more to remain competitive, and converting to solar power is part of our strategy to ensure a sustainable future.
Tastex is an extremely suitable recipient for Tasmania’s first Community Solar project. We have a flat roof suitable for frame-mounted panels, and detailed analysis of our electricity consumption pattern has shown that 30 kW of solar PV could save around $7,000 per year on our electricity bill.
Cost savings from the solar installation will be reinvested into the business, enabling us to maintain the high quality of our products, and develop new and innovative ideas, whilst continuing to provide meaningful employment for Tasmanians.
PROJECT SUPPORTERS
We would like to thank the Waterworks Valley Community, the Tasmanian Renewable Energy Alliance and the Corena Fund, for their kind support in getting this project off the ground.
