A one-man show based on H G Wells’ ground-breaking science fiction novel. UK Tour Autumn 2016. Literary storytelling at its best.
1895. In a suburban garden, beneath a waning moon, a man lies beside a remarkable machine.
He has a story to tell.
A story of darkness and light. Of fire and fear. Of Eloi and Morlocks. An unbelievable story about our future that he insists is true…
Is it a joke? A prophecy? A dream?
In 2013 The Lowry, Harrogate Theatre and Art Council England supported me in the creation of The Time Machine, a new one-man show based on H G Wells’ pioneering science fiction novella. A script was written; a Time Machine was built, and the show toured the UK in 2014 to excellent reviews.
This year is the 150th anniversary of H G Wells’ death and seems like a good time to revisit his early, career defining novel.
With a reworked script and production I have a 17 date tour of the UK booked for September / October 2016. But to pull it off I need to raise enough money to pay for a technician and printing costs for publicity material.
This is where I hope you can help.
Much is already in place: the show is tried and tested, the machine still works, I have committed interest from ten excellent venues in Southport, Shrewsbury, Buxton, Salford, Bath, Leeds, London, Woking, Cambridge and Hillingdon.
The technician I want to employ is someone I have worked with several times in the past and in whom I have absolute trust. Your pledges will allow me to pay her a fair wage for the rehearsal period and perfomances, and get a professional designer to produce publicity material – flyers and posters.
The venues are all in place, and the play is written and largely conceived.
The biggest risk is that the technician I want to employ might suddenly become unavailable. If this happened I have a number of reserves I could call upon.
Otherwise, I can see no plausible risks. If you pledge the money I need then I am confident that I will deliver a good show.
