anita’s story

I grew up in Richmond, CA and am the youngest of 8 kids. After graduating from high school, I attended UC Berkeley and earned a BA with Double Majors in Economics and “Economics in the Black Community” followed by a Haas MBA. I enjoyed a fantastic corporate career and now, in my 50’s, have launched a start up with my Co-founder, Chief Technology Officer and husband of 30 years. We beat out over 100 companies to win “Best Startup Silicon Valley 2015”, are reviewing final drafts of our first corporate contract-a Fortune 50 firm that’s a household brand name, and are invited to Finland this summer as they selected Onēva as having the best elder care platform and service model in the world. Despite these market successes, finding investors is beyond hard. And I acknowledge that fund raising is hard for every CEO but sadly, studies confirm women entrepreneurs receive tiny percentages of all investment dollars. One of my dreams is to prove that capital chases good ideas and not the packages we were each born into.

More about this loan

Business Description

FBI background checked infant to elder care providers are viewed (well their videos are viewed lol!), booked and paid for from Onēva’s platform. We began offering these services in 2014 to consumers in the SF area and improved our technology platform and service model with each new iteration. Beginning this summer, Onēva care (platform+service model) is available to companies who care so much for their employees, they offer them FBI background checked infant and elder care as a wellness benefit. This means, employees of Onēva client companies receive free or subsidized personalized trusted help caring for sick kids, aging parents, or even just to enjoy a date night. All paid for by great employers who value work-life balance. Better still, Onēva workers earn a living wage at a minimum ($15/hr in SF region) and typically earn more with the addition of the Uber-like tip. And our prices are very affordable starting at about $20/hour. Onēva offers services to professional women and men to help them balance their work and family lives. Women (and men!) will be able to extend their professional careers thanks to Onēva. We are so proud to be disrupting the world for the better and won’t stop until every family has access to quality, safe, affordable FBI background checked care!

What is the purpose of this loan?

These funds will be used to pay for the design, test, and implementation of Onēva platform enhancements that make it easier, faster, and more efficient to source FBI background checked workers. Onēva revenues will increase 30% because we will hire more workers to provide trusted personalized care to our most vulnerable.
