Abogada Jessica’s story

I have been through the immigration process with my own family. It took three years including a year of separation to finally get a legal status for my children’s father. When we started, we had no hope of ever achieving that goal. Fortunately, the law shifted and we started our journey, always worried he would be taken from us. Finally, it was time for him to return to Mexico to finish our process. I was in the middle of my law school studies when he left. We had planned for him to be gone for four months (one semester). Meanwhile, I stayed behind with our two children. He finally returned to us almost a full year later. Our children had lost hope he would ever come back. I want to help other families through this difficult process as I understand what they are facing.

More about this loan

Business Description

We offer quality immigration law services to families in their native language in a culturally competent manner. Clients appreciate the time we take to explain their situation and immigration options in a clear manner so that they are empowered to make informed choices about their lives. We provide excellent service at affordable prices so that our low-income immigrant families can move forward in their immigration journey. I led the immigration law group at Immigration Professionals for four years prior to launching my own firm. I have over 15 years of experience in immigration law. I have been recognized widely for my service to the immigrant community. I was pro bono lawyer of the year for Missouri in 2014 for my successful efforts to open public universities to immigrant students. For that work, I have also been given the Ohtli Award by the Mexican Consulate and the Humanitarian of the Year award by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Our goal is to continue to serve immigrant families in the Midwest.

What is the purpose of this loan?

I am launching this project with very little assistance. I will be taking most of my current clients with me, but there are many costs that have to be paid up front. We are renting an office that includes most of the furniture we will need, but we we will need to start accounts with vendors such as telephone, internet and utilities. I also have staff and need to pay them. This loan will help us with these starting expenses until we have clients hire us in the first few weeks.
